Private Special Needs Educator – Denver, CO

IMMEDIATE START: A private family in Denver, CO is seeking an exceptional Private Special Needs Educator for their highly intelligent, curious 7-year-old son. This is an education-focused role for someone who can provide individualized academics while also understanding and supporting a neurodivergent childs emotional regulation, sensory needs, and overall development.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of private education, special education, pediatric therapy/OT, behavioral, or neurodivergent experience, along with the confidence and presence to work effectively within a private household. The family is seeking someone who is warm, playful, affectionate, emotionally steady, and confident in setting clear boundaries without becoming rigid or engaging in power struggles.

Responsibilities

- Develop and implement an individualized curriculum tailored to the childs abilities, interests, and learning style

- Provide instruction across core academics while fostering critical thinking, creativity, independence, and a love of learning

- Support executive functioning, sensory needs, emotional regulation, social development, and frustration tolerance

- Incorporate hands-on learning, educational outings, museums, cultural experiences, and activities into the curriculum

- Transport and accompany the child to therapies, activities, medical/specialist appointments, and other commitments as needed

- Collaborate with parents, therapists, specialists, and other educators to reinforce appropriate strategies across the childs education and daily life

- Maintain clear communication regarding academic progress, development, and overall well-being

- Coordinate all child related schedules

Qualifications

- 5+ years of relevant professional experience; significant private special education and/or private household experience strongly preferred

- Experience working with gifted, neurodivergent, twice-exceptional, or special-needs children

- Background in special education, occupational therapy, sensory processing, nervous-system regulation, behavioral/therapeutic support, or somatic approaches

- Fluent English; Spanish strongly preferred and may increase compensation; Swedish is a plus

- Clean driving record and background check

- Excellent, verifiable references

- Comfortable collaborating within a private family environment and taking ownership of the childs educational program

Schedule & Compensation

Schedule: Monday–Friday, generally beginning around 8:00 AM; approximately 40–50 hours per week, with flexibility for later afternoons, including occasional days until approximately 5:00–6:00 PM based on therapies, appointments, and activities.

Compensation: $115,000–$145,000 DOE, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate with highly specialized experience.
