About this role
Join a world-class growth team building the future of how small businesses discover, adopt, and grow with QuickBooks. As a Principal Product Designer on Product Growth, you'll own design strategy, craft, and outcomes for one of our biggest company bets — spanning acquisition, activation, engagement, monetization, and retention across the customer lifecycle.
You'll set design direction across multiple product areas, shape where we play and how we win experientially, and rally engineering, product, data science, and marketing behind a clear, customer-backed point of view. This is a role for someone who thinks in systems, journeys, and durable design capabilities, not one-off screens — and who holds a high bar for craft even in a fast-moving, experiment-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Own the design strategy and vision for a major product area, connecting near-term experimentation to durable, high-quality customer experiences across the lifecycle.
- Directly accountable for experience quality and business results — conversion, activation, engagement, and retention — partnering with PM on clear North Star and operational KPIs.
- Drive an AI-first design strategy, reimagining end-to-end customer journeys with AI at the center rather than polishing features in isolation.
- Set the bar for a high-velocity design and experimentation culture, from discovery and concepting through rapid prototyping and A/B testing on the highest-leverage surfaces — without sacrificing craft for speed.
- Up-level design craft across the team: raise the standard for visual, interaction, and systems-level design, and ensure experiments and shipped features alike reflect a high quality, cohesive product experience.
- Influence senior leadership and cross-functional partners with compelling, craft-forward storytelling and research-backed points of view; align teams on target customers and the experience needed to win them.
- Coach designers and partners around you on both craft and strategic thinking, and help shape the team's identity, design standards, and operating model as we scale the growth muscle.
- Partner deeply with product, engineering, data science, and growth marketing to ship scalable, high-quality, high-craft solutions.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of hands-on product design experience in enterprise, platform, or complex B2B products, with demonstrated range across multiple problem spaces rather than a single specialty
- A track record of driving ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives to outcomes, ideally where you weren't the most senior person in the room by title but became the person others rallied around
- Genuine comfort operating at the intersection of design, product, and engineering, with the emotional intelligence to partner with engineers under pressure, not the instinct to out-argue them
- Deep, hands-on fluency with AI as a design material, how AI-native products should look, feel, and behave, and how to design experiences that make powerful AI capabilities feel simple. This is core to the role, not a bonus. What we're not looking for is an engineer in designer's clothing: your depth should show up in product judgment and craft, not in a need to go toe to toe with engineering on implementation
- Strong facilitation instincts: able to bring people into a problem, build alignment, and create forward motion without formal authority
- A bias toward fast, iterative validation over polished-but-slow execution, including fluency with AI-powered design and prototyping tools such as Claude, Cursor, or similar
- Demonstrated mentorship of other designers, with judgment about when to unblock someone directly versus when to build their capability
- Excellent executive communication skills: able to represent design thinking to senior stakeholders clearly and persuasively
- A Bachelor's degree in Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or a related field
- A portfolio that shows range across problem types and altitudes, not just depth in one area, along with evidence of facilitation and cross-functional leadership, not just craft output
