About this role
Purpose
The Sales Engineer supports the growth of Oceaneering Mobile Robotics (OMR) by leading the development of technically sound, commercially competitive proposals for Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) and Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) systems. This role serves as the technical-commercial bridge between customers, sales, engineering, and operations, translating customer workflows and requirements into practical automation solutions that deliver measurable operational value.
The Sales Engineer independently manages complex opportunities, provides technical leadership during the pre-sales process, and influences solution strategy to ensure successful customer outcomes and alignment with OMR business objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- 4-7 years of experience in technical sales, sales engineering, applications engineering, systems engineering, or solution development within an industrial automation environment.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to translate operational workflows into practical automation solutions.
- Experience leading technical customer discussions, requirements gathering sessions, and solution development activities.
- Ability to evaluate technical, operational, and commercial trade-offs while developing customer-specific solutions.
- Proficiency with common engineering and proposal tools, including CAD viewers, Excel-based cost models, technical documentation, and system layout development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and executive audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with AGV, AMR, warehouse automation, material handling, or industrial automation systems.
- Experience developing technical proposals, system layouts, assumptions and exclusions, risk assessments, and cost estimates for automation projects.
- Familiarity with manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, or material handling environments.
- Demonstrated success working across cross-functional teams including sales, engineering, controls, operations, and service organizations.
- Experience participating in customer site evaluations, automation assessments, or concept development workshops.
- Experience supporting multi-million-dollar capital equipment or automation opportunities.
- Willingness to travel domestically (up to approximately 25-50%) and participate in customer visits, site surveys, demonstrations, and trade shows.

Hybrid work role based in Houston, TX. Travel required 25%-50% within the United States.

Physical Activity / Requirements
This position is considered light work, including occasional lifting up to 25 pounds and the ability to walk, stand, and wear PPE during facility tours, site assessments, demonstrations, and customer visits as required.
