Job Title: Technical Writer Job Description
The Technical Writer provides comprehensive project support by partnering closely with engineers to develop, update, and maintain technical specifications, reports, manuals, presentations, procedures, and other documentation. This role ensures that all technical documents are clear, accurate, compliant with standards, and delivered on time and within budget. The position may also contribute to configuration management activities, including requirements management, design control, document and records management, and issue and change management, while supporting the overall product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical writing support for new and existing documentation, ensuring all assigned materials are updated and maintained accurately.
- Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts to create, revise, and implement technical specifications, reports, manuals, presentations, procedures, and other technical documents.
- Review technical documents for formatting and adherence to established document standards, ensuring consistency and compliance.
- Ensure project deliverables are executed on time, with high quality, and within budget constraints.
- Work with industry and customer standards to develop quality, user-friendly formats and templates for future publications.
- Edit and manage technical documentation in support of business products, ensuring content is complete, accurate, and delivered in a timely manner.
- Become familiar with applicable products, services, concepts, practices, requirements, and procedures to produce informed and reliable documentation.
- Prioritize, organize, and complete multiple activities simultaneously, meeting established deadlines and relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks.
- Collect, analyze, and compile information from various resources to create or edit procedures, reports, and technical documents.
- Manage the review and approval process for documents, including coordinating feedback and resolving comments.
- Develop documents that are organized, succinct, compliant, and aligned with internal and external deadlines, editing for consistency, clarity, grammar, syntax, format, and regulatory and customer requirements.
- Create, manage, and maintain websites, document libraries, storage repositories, workflows, newsletters, and similar resources as assigned.
- Process engineering changes through appropriate data and document management systems.
- Update and maintain project schedules on a regular basis to reflect documentation progress and deadlines.
- Perform requirements traceability and publishing activities as required, ensuring alignment between requirements and documentation.
- Support input into the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system and perform records management and records maintenance functions as assigned.
- Provide training to other staff members on configuration management (CM) functions, as needed.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in technical writing, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and user-friendly technical documentation.
- Experience collaborating with engineers and subject matter experts to develop technical specifications, reports, manuals, and procedures.
- Strong skills in creating and editing work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Demonstrated ability to review and edit technical publications and technical manuals for clarity, consistency, and adherence to standards.
- Experience with document control and document and records management processes.
- Ability to manage change management activities related to technical documentation and engineering changes.
- Strong editing skills, including grammar, syntax, formatting, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and compile information from multiple sources for use in procedures, reports, and technical documents.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, manage, and complete multiple tasks and projects within established deadlines.
- Comfort working with industry and customer standards to develop formats and templates for technical publications.
- Ability to perform requirements traceability and publishing activities.
- Experience supporting Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and configuration management functions.
- Capability to manage document review and approval workflows, including comment resolution.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience creating, managing, and maintaining websites, document libraries, storage repositories, workflows, and newsletters related to technical documentation.
- Familiarity with design control and issue and change management processes within a technical or engineering environment.
- Experience processing engineering changes through data management or document management systems.
- Ability to provide training to staff on configuration management functions and documentation processes.
- Comfort working in highly visible roles where documentation quality and timeliness are critical to project success.
- Interest in contract roles with the potential option for full-time employment.
- Ability to work with templates and style guides to ensure consistent documentation across products and projects.
Work Environment
The role operates in both office and manufacturing environments, providing exposure to engineering teams and production activities. You work with a variety of document and data management systems, websites, and repositories to support technical publications and configuration management. The position is offered as a 12month contract with the option to pursue fulltime employment, and it includes negotiable paid time off and holiday benefits. The work setting emphasizes collaboration, visibility, and adherence to industry and customer standards, with a focus on delivering high-quality documentation that supports business products and processes.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
