Job Title: Human Resources Manager Job Description
The Human Resources Manager will provide hands-on HR leadership and support for a growing manufacturing operation in New Philadelphia, Ohio. This role serves as a visible and accessible resource for both office personnel and shop-floor employees, balancing strategic initiatives with day-to-day HR needs in a fast-paced environment. The HR Manager will lead broad HR functions, including employee relations, benefits and payroll support, compliance, recruiting, and HR process improvement, while helping the organization prepare for continued workforce expansion.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day HR support to office employees, production associates, supervisors, and managers.
- Respond to employee questions related to policies, benefits, payroll, attendance, leave programs, and workplace matters.
- Manage employee-relations issues, including investigations, corrective actions, conflict resolution, disciplinary matters, and terminations.
- Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, orientation, retention, and offboarding activities for both office and production roles.
- Administer or support employee benefits programs, retirement plans, payroll processes, timekeeping, and attendance reporting.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee information within ADP, Workday, or related HR systems.
- Coach supervisors and managers on policy interpretation, performance management, documentation, and consistent employee treatment.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment requirements, including I-9 documentation, wage-and-hour regulations, EEO practices, unemployment processes, substance-testing programs, and posting requirements.
- Assist with workers compensation administration, OSHA reporting, employee injury management, and workplace safety initiatives.
- Compile and analyze workforce statistics such as headcount, turnover, injuries, compensation, and other HR metrics to support data-driven decisions.
- Prepare monthly HR reports and metrics for corporate leadership.
- Support compensation administration, including wage research and salary benchmarking activities.
- Partner with Operations and Environmental Health and Safety leadership to reinforce a safe and compliant work environment.
- Help organize, document, and strengthen HR processes and procedures as the organization scales.
- Lead or contribute to HR projects that support broader business objectives and continuous improvement.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee information and situations.
- Build strong relationships with production employees, office staff, supervisors, and senior leaders to establish credibility and trust.
- Balance multiple HR responsibilities simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, highly visible environment.
Essential Skills
- Previous HR experience within a manufacturing, industrial, production, or plant environment.
- Proven ability to support both salaried office employees and hourly shop-floor employees.
- Hands-on experience addressing employee relations matters, including policy questions, corrective actions, investigations, conflict resolution, and terminations.
- Working knowledge of ADP, Workday, or comparable HRIS and payroll platforms.
- Experience supporting benefits administration and payroll-related activities.
- Knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including wage-and-hour requirements, I-9 compliance, EEO practices, workers compensation, and workplace policies.
- Ability to operate independently and manage multiple HR responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one conversations, group meetings, presentations, and business reviews.
- Strong organizational, planning, and documentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Ability to establish credibility with production employees, office staff, supervisors, and senior leaders.
- Comfort working in both office and active manufacturing environments and following required safety practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in business, human resources, or a related field is preferred.
- PHR or SPHR certification is beneficial.
- Prior experience in manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.
- Experience with human resource management and senior HR generalist responsibilities.
- Experience in employee relations and HR case management.
- Experience administering workers compensation programs.
- Familiarity with OSHA reporting, affirmative action plans, EEO-1 reporting, and safety programs.
- Experience supporting organizational growth, workforce scaling, or high-volume hiring.
- Experience managing or mentoring HR team members.
- Exposure to union negotiations or labor relations.
- Experience with timekeeping and attendance reporting for production employees.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to compile, interpret, and present HR metrics and workforce data.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize competing demands, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage several functional areas of HR simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Work Environment
This is a full-time, onsite role based in New Philadelphia, Ohio. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with a typical start time of approximately 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. and a flexible end time after completion of an eight-hour workday, based on business and employee-support needs. The work setting is a combination of a professional office environment and an active manufacturing/shop-floor environment. The HR Manager supports both office employees and production/shop-floor associates and works in a fast-paced, highly visible, employee-facing, and hands-on capacity. The role requires adherence to all site safety procedures and the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering designated manufacturing areas. The position offers the opportunity to make an immediate and visible impact within a growing manufacturing organization, with broad ownership across multiple HR disciplines rather than a narrow specialty.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Philadelphia, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.17 - $45.67/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
