Job Title: Accessioner I Job Description
The Accessioner I processes laboratory samples and ensures that each specimen is accurately received, documented, and prepared for clinical testing. This role focuses primarily on blood specimens, but may also include urine and tissue samples. The Accessioner I works closely with other laboratory professionals to support accurate diagnosis and treatment by maintaining precise records and managing clinical information in the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
Responsibilities
- Receive and triage all specimens for clinical testing, including blood, urine, and tissue samples.
- Verify specimen identification and accompanying documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Catalog and organize patient specimens in accordance with laboratory protocols and workflow priorities.
- Manage and maintain clinical information within the LIMS database with a high level of accuracy.
- Perform internal audits of clinical charts and records to ensure data integrity and compliance with procedures.
- Collaborate with various laboratory departments to support testing accuracy and timely processing of samples.
- Follow established laboratory procedures and safety protocols while handling and processing specimens.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area to support smooth laboratory operations.
- Meet established deadlines and turnaround times for specimen processing and data entry.
- Work both independently and as part of a team to support overall laboratory goals and patient care.
Essential Skills
- 02 years of work experience in a laboratory, medical, or related environment.
- Proficiency in specimen processing and accessioning procedures.
- Experience with data entry and management of clinical information systems, including LIMS.
- Strong attention to accuracy and detail when handling specimens and entering data.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage workload in a time-sensitive environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently and within a team setting.
- Foundational understanding of laboratory or medical terminology.
- AS or BS degree in biological sciences preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- AS or BS degree in biological sciences or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory or medical setting is advantageous.
- Familiarity with laboratory workflows, including specimen accessioning and processing.
- Comfort working with blood and other biological specimens.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate across departments.
Work Environment
This position is based in a laboratory environment and involves frequent handling of blood and other biological specimens. The role follows a Tuesday through Saturday schedule, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The work requires consistent attention to detail in a structured setting, using laboratory information management systems and other standard lab equipment. The environment emphasizes adherence to safety protocols, cleanliness, and collaboration with other laboratory professionals to support accurate and timely clinical testing.

This is a Contract position based out of Brentwood, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $18.63/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
