Job Description

A leading engineering, testing, inspection, and certification firm is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to support commercial, industrial, infrastructure, and construction projects. This role is responsible for performing welding inspections, verifying compliance with project specifications and applicable codes, documenting findings, and working closely with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders throughout construction activities. The ideal candidate will possess a current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification and experience inspecting structural steel fabrication and field welding operations. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Responsibilities

- Perform visual welding inspections on structural steel and related construction projects.
- Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and material compliance with project specifications and applicable codes.
- Inspect shop fabrication and field welding activities.
- Review construction documents, welding procedures, and quality control documentation.
- Document inspection findings and prepare detailed inspection reports.
- Coordinate with contractors, project managers, engineers, and clients regarding inspection results and corrective actions.
- Monitor welding operations to ensure adherence to quality standards and safety requirements.
- Witness and document nondestructive testing (NDT) activities as required.
- Identify deficiencies and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Maintain accurate project records and inspection documentation.
- Travel to construction sites, fabrication shops, and client facilities as needed.

Required Qualifications

- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2+ years of welding inspection, structural steel inspection, fabrication, or related experience.
- Strong understanding of welding processes, welding procedures, and steel construction practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
- Experience preparing inspection reports and maintaining project documentation.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work both independently and within a project team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Welding Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with structural steel inspections.
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1, AISC, IBC, and related industry standards.
- Additional certifications such as: ICC Structural Steel & Bolting
- ICC Structural Welding
- NDT Certifications (MT, PT, UT)
- NICET Certifications

- Prior experience working for a testing, inspection, engineering, or consulting firm.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Work Environment

This position is primarily field-based and may involve visits to active construction sites, fabrication facilities, industrial plants, and infrastructure projects. The role requires frequent walking, climbing ladders, accessing elevated work areas, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of high-profile construction and infrastructure projects while advancing their career within the inspection and special inspections industry.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Farmingdale, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $62.50 - $93.75/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job
classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be
