Job Title: Substation Construction Manager Job Description
The Substation Construction Manager oversees a multiyear substation project supporting a large data center development in the Rayville/Delhi, Louisiana area. This role leads subcontractor crews in the construction and commissioning of a substation, ensuring that all work meets safety, quality, schedule, and reporting requirements. The position focuses on driving subcontractor performance, coordinating field activities, and maintaining high standards of production and workmanship across a large team.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage subcontractor crews in the construction and commissioning of a substation for a large data center project.
- Drive subcontractor performance to meet production, quality, safety, and schedule goals.
- Oversee daytoday field construction activities, ensuring work is executed in accordance with construction documents and project standards.
- Manage a team of up to approximately 25 people at a time, providing direction, coordination, and support.
- Ensure all construction work complies with safety requirements and promotes a strong safety culture on site.
- Maintain quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) across all phases of substation construction.
- Verify that subcontractors execute work in accordance with contract requirements, technical standards, and project specifications.
- Monitor and report on project progress, including production, issues, and risks, using standardized reporting tools and processes.
- Support change management processes, including identifying, documenting, and communicating changes in scope or conditions.
- Assist with risk management by identifying potential issues and working with the project team to develop mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate and conduct construction meetings with project stakeholders and subcontractors to review progress, issues, and upcoming work.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with the project team and project stakeholders to ensure alignment on schedule, performance, and expectations.
- Use computer and reporting tools to track work, prepare reports, and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Support transmission, distribution, and substation/tline construction activities as needed across current and future projects.
Essential Skills
- Proven substation construction management experience, including leading field crews and subcontractors.
- Experience in electrical distribution and power delivery construction environments.
- Background in construction management with responsibility for production, quality, and safety.
- Ability to oversee construction and commissioning phases of utility or substation projects.
- Strong understanding of construction documents and ability to ensure work aligns with project specifications and standards.
- Experience managing distribution construction projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate teams of approximately 25 personnel in the field.
- Proficiency with computer tools and software used for project documentation and reporting.
- Strong reporting skills, including standardized project reporting to stakeholders.
- Experience ensuring compliance with safety, quality, contract, schedule, change management, and risk management requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on Entergy or other utility projects is a plus.
- Background in transmission and substation/tline construction is highly beneficial.
- Project management experience in construction, particularly in electrical and power delivery environments.
- Ability to work in a fastpaced, multiproject environment with a growing backlog of utility work.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Capability to support future distribution and substation projects, primarily in Louisiana.
Work Environment
This is a fieldbased role focused on actively pushing and coordinating the work of subcontractor crews on site. The project is slated to last at least 2+ years, with potential extension to 5 years based on additional projects and performance. The typical schedule is a base 50hour work week, working five 10hour days (510s), with the expectation that hours may increase beyond 50+ per week as project demands grow. Standard per diem is provided for seven days per week. Holidays and paid time off are offered and structured to be billed back through the project. The organization has a growing footprint with utilities and a strong backlog of projects already awarded for upcoming years, offering ongoing opportunities for future work within transmission, distribution, and substation construction. The environment emphasizes safety, quality, and professional field coordination, with the Construction Manager spending the majority of time on site directing and overseeing crews.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
