Position Title : Food to Freedom Community Liaison

FLSA : Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Salary : $74,000 - $76,000 annually

Schedule : 40 hours/week

Location : On-site, In-person, San Francisco, CA

Mission:
Booker T. Washington Community Service Center (BTWCSC) is one of the Bay Area’s oldest Black-led, Black-serving nonprofit organizations with a century of service to San Francisco. A beacon of Black joy and self-determination, we have nurtured over five generations of Black San Franciscans. We stand embedded as an anchor institution, fostering intergenerational bonds and working in solidarity with allied communities to reform and reimagine a more inclusive San Francisco. We prioritize serving the Black community and we welcome all from cultures and ages 0-99 who walk through our door. We are one of the few urban spaces where anyone in the community can access comprehensive services, from a hot meal to childcare to academic support to senior services. Summary:
The BTWCSC Food to Freedom Community Liaison will be under the direct supervision of the BTWCSC Senior Manager of Food Sovereignty Programs and the Food To Freedom Justice Coordinator. This team is led by the Associate Director of Community Resiliency Programs.

Food to Freedom Community Liaison will be responsible for providing programmatic, outreach, operational and administrative support for the BTWCSC “Food to Freedom'' Food Justice program. This program provides an array of weekly, free culturally-appropriate and quality food services and educational opportunities to the San Francisco District 5 community through a Black cultural lens, aiming to radically transform the local food distribution system by centering a “Black Led, Black Fed” ecosystem, a farm-to-community center initiative that nourishes bodies, minds, and souls.
Food to Freedom Community Liaison helps address food insecurity in high-need communities by being an operational resource for access to fresh produce, groceries and culturally relevant meals.

Essential Duties :

● Support the development and implementation of BTWCSC weekly and daily food justice programs, including free market pantry, community meals distribution, program meals coordination, and events;
● Adhere to Program priorities around food, service, volunteers, and community engagement and support these areas to be responsive to the shifting needs in each.
● Support community outreach events about BTWCSC programs or offerings, and sharing educational tools for audiences ages 0-99. 800 Presidio Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94115| 415-928-6596 | www.btwcsc.org
● Facilitate curriculum to teach the community about sustainable food systems, cooking,
nutrition, and gardening. Coordinate produce tastings, retail and farmers market
explorations, and hands-on cooking classes, to nurture community love and
understanding of healthy, fresh food.
● Recruiting, training, and supervising BTWCSC Food Justice interns and volunteers.
● Promoting healthy eating practices using farm fresh produce provided by
BTWCSC
● Supporting cooking demonstrations using culturally-affirming, seasonal produce
● Completing Community Food Educator training with an emphasis on (1) community
engagement, (2) using local and seasonal plants, and (3) food handling and cooking
techniques.
● Collaborate with the Senior Wellness Team, community-based organizations, local
housing sites, and community residents from Western Addition, for the seamless
facilitation of food service and/or distribution programs that are timely, dignified, and
client-centered.
● Assisting in the coordination of program logistics - sourcing, transportation, distribution
and delivery for food, prepared meals and produce.
● Support data tracking and entry for all participants/clients, and completing program
monitoring activities administrative tasks as needed, while ensuring data privacy and
client confidentiality;
● Track record or connection to targeted neighborhoods of Fillmore/Western Addition.
● Ability to communicate effectively with agency staff, clients, youth and
volunteers.
● Complete and obtain Food Safety Certification, Community Food Educator training, and
HIPAA Certification;
● Set-up, maintain and complete offsite grocery pop-ups and food distribution.
● Support administrative tasks and program monitoring activities as needed by BTWCSC
Senior Manager of Food Sovereignty and Food Justice Coordinator
● Additional duties as needed.

Job Qualifications
● Possess an interest in making a difference with respect to nutrition, while having a
passion for food justice and healthy food choices.
● Some nutrition background is preferred.
● Ability to work with diverse populations, especially the Black/African-American
community
● Reliable, dependable and detail-oriented
● Customer service-oriented
● Emotional maturity, good moral character, and integrity.
● Strong command of Google Suite and Gmail.
● Excellent verbal communications and clear writing skills.
● Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage activities that require attention to
detail
● Ability to read, understand and complete various forms, documents, and reports.
● Does not indulge in illicit drugs, alcoholic beverages prior or during work hours.
● Ability to plan, be flexible, work with a team, and create activities on
the spot.
● Ability to work with diversity and challenge, establish and maintain

Education :
● Must be 18 years of age or older.
● HS Diploma or General Equivalent Diploma.
● Experience working with food programs is highly desired.
● Experience working with a variety of age groups (youth to senior) is highly desired.

Physical Requirements :
Must be able to move 50 pounds safely. Must have the physical stamina and the ability to
perform repetitive tasks involving lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Common
demands include lifting items, pushing and pulling carts, and working in varied temperatures,
including refrigerated and outdoor areas. Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing,
and pulling. Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit
(refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit. Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.

Schedule : 
Regular business hours, Monday – Friday, 9am to 6pm. Some night or weekend
hours as needed. Additional hours required for program activities include, but are not limited to,
BTW events, evening and late-night duty, field trips, and/or staff meetings and development
days; a calendar and schedule will be provided in advance.
