Shift: Rotating 8-Hour Shifts
Pay Rate: $32.54/hour

Summary Description

The Quality Technician III is an advanced quality position responsible for ensuring that internal and customer quality specifications are consistently met through inspection, testing, documentation, analysis, and management of key elements of the plant’s Quality Management System.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, this position combines hands-on product testing with higher-level quality responsibilities, including corrective actions, supplier quality, customer complaints, audits, food safety, change control, line validation, reporting, and continuous improvement. The Quality Technician III also serves as a key plant representative for customer interactions related to product and service quality.

What You’ll Be Doing

Quality Inspection & Testing

- Inspect and grade finished converted structures for color, registration, ink adhesion, physical dimensions, and other established quality requirements.
- Use a lab sealer to prepare heat and cohesive seals for testing.
- Use a tensile tester to evaluate heat and cohesive seals and lamination bond strengths.
- Use analytical balances to weigh raw and finished materials.
- Use X-Rite equipment to test the opacity of finished materials.
- Perform standard procedures for organoleptic evaluation of finished materials.
- Use a gas chromatograph and integrator to perform headspace analysis for solvent retention in flexible packaging.
- Use a Thwing-Albert COF tester to analyze the coefficient of friction of substrates.
- Operate a densitometer, X-Rite computer, and associated software used to assess color quality.
- Perform basic routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Approve color standards for on-target color and defect-free samples prior to submission to customers.

Quality Assurance & Documentation

- Perform required Quality Assurance Table functions, including cutting samples, checking repeat, identifying and documenting print defects, and notifying appropriate personnel.
- Maintain accurate records and calculate statistics related to quality tests and procedures.
- Prepare job boards, color standard booklets, and other quality-related materials.
- Create accurate and professional documents, including customer letters, run-data forms, end-of-job summaries, color-standard submissions, and other required documentation.
- Operate and update databases, spreadsheets, word-processing programs, and other applicable software.
- Complete and submit Certificates of Analysis (COAs) to customers.
- Assist with analyzing and resolving product-quality concerns.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area.

Quality Management System & Continuous Improvement

- Provide hands-on management of key elements of the Quality Management System.
- Develop and manage Quality Action Plans.
- Support and manage corrective actions, supplier quality activities, customer complaints, standard work audit processes, standard procedures, test methods, and process controls.
- Generate quality scorecards and reports covering plant quality performance, including NPS, CARs, SCARs, COAs, on-time and in-full deliveries, SPC reporting, losses, GMP/Product Safety, audits, and change-control processes.
- Manage the Food Safety Team and organize its activities.
- Participate in cross-functional teams and lead continuous improvement initiatives within the plant.
- Promote awareness and understanding of customer quality requirements throughout the facility.
- Participate in reviews of the effectiveness of the Quality Management System.
- Support the management team in identifying critical quality priorities and developing plans to achieve sustained improvement.
- Help ensure business-unit quality systems remain aligned with corporate standards through reviews and audits.
- Manage change-control activities and line validation.
- Support internal, third-party, and customer audits.
- Demonstrate a commitment to total quality and continuous improvement in all aspects of the position.

Customer & Plant Quality Leadership

- Serve as the lead plant representative during meetings or interactions with customers related to product or service quality.
- Communicate quality issues, findings, corrective actions, and expectations effectively with customers and internal teams.
- Work independently while collaborating effectively with Production, Management, and other departments.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Use quality data and reporting to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or as business needs require.
- Work overtime as required.

- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required. Candidates who demonstrate the necessary manufacturing experience and the required literacy, numeracy, and technical skills will be considered regardless of educational background.
- You have the ability to perform detailed quality testing, analysis, documentation, and troubleshooting.
- You have strong communication and interpersonal skills and can work effectively with customers, coworkers, and cross-functional teams.
- You can work independently while effectively managing multiple quality-related priorities.
- You can maintain accurate records, reports, and technical documentation.
- You demonstrate strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- You understand and support the principles of total quality and continuous improvement.
- You can lead quality initiatives and effectively communicate customer requirements throughout the plant.
- You are able to support audits, corrective actions, change-control activities, and line validations.
- You are able to achieve Green Belt certification.
- You are able to achieve ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) certification or equivalent.
- You are available to work overtime as required.
