About this role

Ankura is a team of excellence founded on innovation and growth.

The AI Advisory practice is part of the Digital business group which is one of five strategic business groups at Ankura

Turn your curiosity about AI into something you can build, test and explain. Spend your summer with Ankura's AI by Design practice, exploring how business decisions, technology and people come together to make AI truly transformative.

Practice Overview

AI is changing the economics of how organisations operate, build and compete. The opportunity now is to adopt it quickly enough, in the right areas, to capture that value; while building the capability to keep moving where your business wants to go, where it wants to grow, as the frontier advances. This is where Ankura - AI by Design works.

We combine strategy, governance engineering and workforce transformation with hands-on AI building and testing, alongside our curated ecosystem partners.

Ankura – AI by Design’s Summer Internships let you encounter the questions behind the technology: what is worth building, how to make it responsible and what people need to adopt it.

You will focus on at least one of AI Strategy, AI Governance Engineering or AI Workforce Transformation, where you'll explore those questions with experienced colleagues. You could research a use case, help test a safeguard or map how a team's work could change. Alongside this, you'll use AI platforms to help build and evaluate small prototypes, assistants or automated workflows, learning by trying, testing and improving.

What you'll gain

You'll see how the three disciplines connect, from choosing an opportunity to testing a solution and driving adoption & change. Exposure to our ecosystem partners, leading technology companies and frontier AI firms will broaden your understanding of different approaches. Hands-on platform work will help you explore how AI tools are built, evaluated and used responsibly.

You'll practise researching unfamiliar topics, explaining findings and collaborating across technical and business perspectives. With guidance from colleagues, you'll learn to ask useful questions, respond to feedback and present your contribution clearly. The experience will help you assess your interests and explore a future career in AI advisory or delivery.

Requirements

AI by Design recognizes the importance of multidisciplinary perspectives in building a responsible and intentional future for technology. Our team includes designers, ethicists, researchers, technologists and more. We therefore encourage candidates from all academic disciplines to apply, provided they meet the role requirements listed.

- On course for a 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent) or above.
- Curiosity about AI and how it affects business decisions, responsible technology use and people's working lives.
- Willingness to explore all three disciplines and contribute to practical tasks with guidance.
- An analytical approach, checking sources carefully and distinguishing evidence from assumptions.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining your ideas and listening to people with different perspectives.
- A collaborative approach, openness to feedback and confidence to ask for help.
- Enthusiasm for experimenting with AI tools, checking their outputs and considering their limitations rather than accepting answers uncritically.
- Care with information and an interest AI's human impact, including how to manage the risks of AI.
- Coursework, personal projects, coding or low-code experience is useful, but not essential.
