About this role
Position Overview
We are seeking a Chief Information Officer to lead the technology strategy for a rapidly growing, multi-location organization.
This is not a traditional CIO role focused primarily on infrastructure, systems administration, and keeping technology running. We are looking for a business-minded technology executive who understands how technology can improve operations, increase productivity, enhance the customer experience, enable growth, and create a competitive advantage.
The ideal candidate has operated in a fast-paced environment where growth created complexity faster than existing systems and processes could support it. Experience within franchising, multi-unit operations, home services, consumer services, retail, hospitality, restaurants, healthcare services, or another distributed operating model is highly desirable.
This leader must be equally comfortable developing a long-term technology strategy and solving the operational realities of a large, decentralized organization today.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and execute the enterprise technology strategy, ensuring investments support growth, operational efficiency, scalability, and broader business objectives.
- Partner with executive leadership and operating teams to identify where technology can solve business problems, improve performance, and create competitive advantages.
- Assess the current technology environment and develop a clear roadmap for what should be retained, replaced, consolidated, integrated, or built.
- Lead the modernization and integration of enterprise platforms, applications, infrastructure, cloud environments, data, and digital capabilities.
- Build a scalable technology architecture capable of supporting continued geographic and organizational expansion.
- Drive innovation across automation, artificial intelligence, analytics, mobile technology, customer-facing platforms, and emerging technologies where there is a clear business case.
- Improve how the organization collects, governs, analyzes, and uses data to make better decisions.
- Lead enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure, cloud, applications, integrations, disaster recovery, business continuity, and technology governance.
- Establish a comprehensive cybersecurity, privacy, compliance, and risk-management strategy appropriate for a large, distributed organization.
- Own technology vendor strategy, including selection, contracting, performance management, consolidation, cost control, and accountability.
- Create stronger partnerships between technology and operating teams so initiatives are driven by real business needs rather than technology for technology's sake.
- Establish meaningful technology KPIs and clearly communicate priorities, progress, risks, investments, tradeoffs, and business outcomes to executive leadership.
- Build, develop, and lead a high-performing technology organization capable of supporting both current operations and future growth.
Transformation & Execution
The CIO will be expected to bring greater structure, accountability, and speed to technology initiatives across the organization.
Candidates should have meaningful experience working within Agile environments and understand how Agile principles can improve the way technology teams prioritize, build, test, deploy, and continuously improve solutions.
Experience with Scrum or similar Agile delivery frameworks is strongly preferred. The right candidate should understand the principles behind these methodologies rather than simply having worked inside an organization that used them.
This leader must know how to introduce structure without creating unnecessary bureaucracy and be comfortable operating in an environment where priorities can change quickly.
Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, or other operational excellence methodologies is also valuable, particularly when used alongside Agile technology practices.
Ideal Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates who have:
- Led technology within a high-growth, multi-location, multi-state, franchise, or similarly distributed organization.
- Served as a CIO, CTO, Chief Digital Officer, SVP/VP of Technology, VP of IT, or equivalent senior technology executive.
- Built or significantly transformed a technology organization rather than simply inheriting and maintaining one.
- Led enterprise transformation initiatives involving multiple systems, departments, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Managed technology through acquisitions, rapid expansion, significant organizational growth, or other periods of substantial change.
- Worked directly with executive leadership and can translate complex technology issues into clear business decisions.
- Managed significant technology budgets and made disciplined decisions about where to invest, simplify, consolidate, or eliminate spending.
- Implemented, migrated, consolidated, or optimized enterprise platforms including ERP, CRM, financial systems, workforce management, field-service technology, data platforms, customer applications, and other business-critical systems.
- Led cybersecurity, infrastructure, cloud, data, applications, integrations, enterprise architecture, and technology governance at scale.
- Implemented Agile methodologies, preferably including Scrum, within complex technology organizations.
- Built strong technology leadership teams and developed the organizational capabilities required to support continued growth.
Leadership Profile
We are looking for someone strategic enough to think several years ahead but operational enough to understand what is happening inside the business today.
The right person will be comfortable walking into complexity. They will challenge legacy thinking when necessary but will not pursue technology simply because it is new.
They will understand that successful technology transformation requires more than selecting the right software. It requires adoption, accountability, communication, change management, disciplined execution, and measurable business outcomes.
Most importantly, this person will view technology through the lens of the business.
The goal is not to have the newest technology stack.
The goal is to build a technology organization that allows the company to operate smarter, move faster, serve customers better, manage risk, and scale.
