About this role
Assists the Manager of Servers and Networks to provide guidance to the Server Team while encouraging cooperation and interaction between its members. Provide leadership in the recommendation, development, configuration, installation, administration and optimization of the County’s hardware, disk storage and software for the County’s server-based computer systems. Ensures the availability of a server-based and web-based applications and the ability for the County’s users to log-on to a functioning computer each day and access e-mail, the internet and their business related applications so that they can perform their vital business functions. Provides a stable and technologically relevant server and storage environment.
Management Scope: Supervise System Engineer I, II & Senior.
Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, or in a job-related field of study. Five (5) years of experience in Systems Engineering which involved the maintenance of compute and storage systems, including two (2) years supervisory experience.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Expert knowledge of data center design, management and operations; software-defined data center theory; software-designed storage theory; disaster recovery and data protection operations; information security as it pertains to compute and storage environments; cloud technologies; storage area networks and fiber channel/iSCSI; the Dallas County Department of Information Technology policies and procedures; project management and research techniques; the concepts, practices, and procedures of other information technology fields and their interaction with data center functions.
Expert ability to perform market research and product evaluation testing; troubleshoot and resolve very complex problems in a compute and storage environment; analyze and understand line of business application operations; analyze and interpret business requirements and transform them into architectural designs and create related documentation; establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate clearly, orally and in writing with varying levels of the organization with varying technological understanding.

Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and good driving record. Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history. Must maintain a good driving record and remain in compliance with Article Il, Subdivision Il of Chapter 90 of the Dallas County Code.
“Individuals holding or considered for a position which has, or may have, access to criminal justice databases including the FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems, NCIC/TCIC and similar databases, must pass a national fingerprint-based records check prior to placement in such position and may be denied placement in such positions and/or access to such systems. Incumbents must also maintain the ability to pass the records check while in the position or until such time that the Commissioners Court and the County Civil Service Commission deem this position no longer has this requirement.”
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
On call 24/7 technical support may be required. Requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to lift files, boxes, and other materials up to 20 lbs., unassisted.
