Job Title: Chemical Technician 1st Shift Job Description The Chemical Technician 1st Shift plays a key role in ensuring product quality and laboratory safety by performing chemical testing, maintaining adherence to ISO 9001 standards, and supporting quality control processes across raw materials and finished products. This position actively participates in safety initiatives, manages product and customer specifications within the quality management system, and helps resolve quality and process issues between the laboratory and production. Responsibilities
- Prepare safety topics and lead weekly safety meetings to promote a strong safety culture in the laboratory.
- Ensure the quality of products and maintain strict adherence to ISO 9001 standards in all testing and documentation activities.
- Perform chemical testing and cover any area of testing required in the lab when needed or requested.
- Monitor sample status in the QC database and close and release product test results in a timely and accurate manner.
- Identify personnel-related issues within the lab, communicate them appropriately, and recommend resolutions to leadership.
- Identify, communicate, and retrain team members to address errors made by both the lab and production, such as missing labels on sample cups, incorrect product or customer information on sample labels, missing test results, or erroneous data.
- Recommend and support corrective actions to prevent recurring errors in sampling, testing, and data recording processes.
- Enter all new customer and product specifications into the quality management system and maintain accurate, up-to-date specifications.
- Validate Certificates of Analysis (C of A) first released from the quality management system and ensure that correct specifications are in place.
- Initiate specification requests when no existing specifications are available for a product or customer.
- Monitor raw materials in quality inspection, perform necessary testing, and release materials in a timely manner.
- Resolve raw material specification issues by coordinating with appropriate stakeholders and ensuring compliance with quality requirements.
- Collaborate with production and other departments to support blending and related processes through accurate testing and specification management.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for all testing, inspections, and specification changes in accordance with GMP and quality procedures.
Essential Skills
- Experience working in a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) environment and following established quality and documentation procedures.
- Hands-on experience with chemical testing in a laboratory setting.
- Strong knowledge of wet chemistry techniques and raw material testing methods.
- Ability to work with and maintain data in a QC database and quality management system.
- Attention to detail in labeling samples, recording test results, and validating specifications.
- Ability to identify errors and inconsistencies in test data, sample information, and specifications and take corrective action.
- Strong communication skills to clearly convey safety topics, quality issues, and corrective actions to team members.
- Capability to lead and chair weekly safety meetings and promote safe work practices.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality standards and their application in a laboratory and production environment.
- Ability to manage and update customer and product specifications within a quality management system.
- Experience validating Certificates of Analysis (C of A) against established specifications.
- Problem-solving skills to resolve raw material specification issues and support continuous improvement.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with laboratory and production teams to ensure accurate testing and blending processes.
Work Environment This is a 1st shift position with working hours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The role is based in a laboratory and production support environment that emphasizes safety, GMP compliance, and adherence to ISO 9001 standards. Work involves routine chemical testing, wet chemistry procedures, and interaction with a QC database and quality management systems. The environment is structured and process-driven, with regular safety meetings and close collaboration between quality, lab, and production teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Plainfield, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
