Role Overview
OXMAN is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to join our Finance & Accounting team and report directly to the Controller. This individual will play an important role in the day-to-day accounting function, with an initial focus on developing a deep understanding of the company’s general ledger, supporting the monthly close, owning key account reconciliations, and helping manage accounts payable and cash activity.
As the individual develops familiarity with the business and accounting environment, the role is expected to expand into broader areas of accounting and finance, including financial reporting, systems and process improvement, multi-entity accounting, audit readiness, and exposure to budgeting, forecasting, and cash planning.
The ideal candidate has a strong public accounting foundation, is a CPA, and is comfortable operating in a lean, dynamic organization where responsibilities evolve and team members are expected to take ownership, solve problems, and continuously improve processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting Operations & Financial Close
Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Develop a strong understanding of the company’s general ledger, accounting processes, and underlying business activity.
- Prepare and maintain journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed asset schedules, and other key close-related analyses.
- Own and perform account reconciliations, including bank and cash reconciliations, and investigate and resolve reconciling items.
- Support and increasingly take ownership of accounts payable, vendor activity, payment processing, transaction coding, and related controls.
- Maintain accurate supporting schedules and ensure the completeness and integrity of general ledger accounts and sub-ledgers with NetSuite.
- Review account activity, investigate variances and unusual items, and escalate accounting matters as appropriate.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis
Support the Controller in preparing monthly financial statements, management reporting, support schedules, and other supporting documentation.
- Assist with monthly variance analysis and other financial reporting packages.
- Over time, gain exposure to budgeting, forecasting, cash planning, and other FP&A activities.
- Work with external accountants, tax advisers, and other financial partners as needed.
- Assist the Controller with preparing and presenting financial results to the Chief Financial Officer and Management.
- Multi-Entity Accounting & Organizational Development
Support accounting across multiple legal entities, including intercompany and related-party activity.
- Assist with the development of accounting processes, controls, and reporting structures for new entities as the organization evolves.
- Gain exposure to both for-profit and not-for-profit to accounting environments.
- Support efforts to strengthen financial reporting, documentation, and internal processes in preparation for future audits and increased organizational complexity
- Assist with accounting and operational workstreams related to organizational restructuring and entity formation.
- Internal Controls & Compliance
Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting and accounting operations.
- Help document and improve accounting policies, procedures, and workflows.
- Support corporate, tax, regulatory, and audit-related requirements.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen controls while maintaining efficient and practical processes.
- Systems & Process Improvement
Become a strong user of NetSuite and related finance systems.
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes.
- Support improvements to reporting, systems configurations, and finance operations.
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, HR, and other teams to ensure accurate financial data and effective processes.
Key Goals and Outcomes
- Become a trusted day-to-day accounting partner to the Controller, enabling greater focus on review and higher-level finance work.
- Help build a scalable accounting function that supports OXMAN's evolving multi-entity structure and future audit readiness.
- Grow over time into broader responsibilities across the finance and operations functions.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; Master’s degree a plus.
- 3-6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting experience at a Big Four or comparable firm.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and core accounting principles.
- Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with modern finance and accounting tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- High attention to detail with the ability to understand the broader business context behind financial activity.
- Ability to operate effectively in a lean, evolving organization with shifting priorities and hands-on responsibilities.
Preferred Experience
- NetSuite or similar ERP experience.
- Multi-entity, intercompany, or related-party accounting.
- Not-for-profit accounting exposure.
- Cost accounting, project accounting, or other operational accounting experience.
- Audit preparation and financial statement support.
- Experience in research, technology, life sciences, or another complex operating environment.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and core accounting principles
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including comfort working with large data sets and financial schedules
- Strong financial analysis and reconciliation skills
- Ability to navigate accounting systems and troubleshoot data or process issues
Required Certifications
- Active CPA license required
