What you’ll be doing
As a Director with the Corporate and Private Credit Risk team, you will report to the Senior Director, Trading Credit Risk (TCR), and manage a portfolio of non-Bank Financial Institutions (funds, insurance companies, finance companies etc.). This role will have a focus on Fund Finance, particularly capital call/subscription lending and NAV-based facilities, and will work in partnership with Corporate & Commercial Banking deal teams to understand business requirements and assist in the appropriate structuring of facilities. You will work in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment where time pressures demand quick response, and sharing of skills and knowledge is critical. You will be responsible for the adjudication and authorization of new, increased, renewed or amended credits within delegated lending limits, assist in the preparation of portfolio-wide and transaction-specific analyses, and provide recommendations and strategies to senior leaders. You will be managing a portfolio daily that includes clients across Canada, the US and Europe.

How you’ll succeed
- Develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with line of business partners
- Utilize your high level of knowledge of Financial Institutions sector and provide advice to Risk leadership on relevant matters. Strong emphasis is to be provided for lending facilities and trading credit transactions covering Global Markets business units (including Foreign Exchange, Interest Rates, Equity Financing, and complex lending structures).
- Provide constructive advice and guidance to relationship managers on credit transactions as appropriate, within CIBC’s credit policies and guidelines and CIBC’s risk appetite
- Demonstrate a keen understanding of current and developing regulatory issues , as well as CIBC credit policies, guidelines and procedures
- Effectively utilize CIBC risk rating methodologies to ensure an objective and accurate assessment of risk in credit transactions
- Provide consulting and assistance as a subject matter expert to influence the development, implementation and management of policies and programs related to the sector(s) covered
Who you are
- You can demonstrate experience in analyzing financial statements in order to assess credit risks utilizing strong analytical skills. You should have strong knowledge of, and experience in dealing with, the credit risks associated with Fund Finance lending, as well as various trading room products including derivatives and financing products.
- You bring at least 5 years of experience in trading credit risk , including strong knowledge of credit risk frameworks, counterparty exposure, and risk oversight in a trading environment.
- You possess strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate complicated concepts and financial data to senior management, have advanced technical skills including Excel and other Microsoft Office products, and well-developed decision-making and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders with different priorities.
- You can demonstrate experience in managing large corporate credit deals, and possess superior analytical skills and effective communication.
