The Program Assistant, under general direction, provides standard program support and coordination of activities for the Medication Assistance Program.
What you need to know
Salary: $18.20 hourly
Travel: This position may require up to 20% or more of travel.
Schedule: This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or on weekends.
Responsibilities:
Medication Assistance Program
- Assists in coordinating program activities and travels to various program locations to provide on-site support.
- Serves as first point of contact for program information and coordinates responses to request for program information as needed.
- Conducts personal interviews with residents and aids in completing pharmaceutical applications for assistance programs and follows up on pending applications.
- Builds and maintains positive working relationships with patients, healthcare provides, and community organizations.
- Confers as needed on a timely basis with Healthy South Texas staff regarding patient care plans.
Administrative
- Maintains pharmaceutical company and client databases and other program materials, including administrative, fiscal, and client records.
- Composes correspondence, reports, publications, presentations, including editing/proofreading program materials as needed.
- Continuously expands knowledge and understanding of community resources, services, and available programs.
- Assists in reviewing and updating program policies and procedures and makes recommendations for program improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Patient Support
- Assists patients in reviewing care plans and results in an effective manner.
- Motivates patients to be active and engaged participants in their health.
- Assists patients in overcoming barriers to obtaining needed medical care and social services and utilizing other community resources.
- Provides culturally appropriate support and information for the patient and their families in a series of structed visits and follow-up phone calls in a variety of settings, including the patients’ homes.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to speak English and Spanish
- Two years of related experience in public health, health outreach, or health education.
- Experience working with healthcare organizations, providers, patients, or community-based organizations.
- Community Health Worker Certification or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others.
- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and standard office applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
