The Associate Director, Segment Quality Engineering is a people and delivery leader responsible for executing quality engineering practices across a defined set of products, applications, or delivery teams within Humana’s technology portfolio. Reporting to the AVP, Segment Quality Engineering, this role leads quality engineering teams focused on delivery quality, test automation, release readiness, and continuous improvement.
This leader will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Platform, DevOps, and enterprise quality teams to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle and improve release confidence, delivery speed, and production stability. The Associate Director will help operationalize segment quality strategy through consistent execution, strong team leadership, and measurable quality outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead quality engineering execution for a defined set of applications, products, or agile teams within the segment portfolio.
- Manage, coach, and develop quality engineering leaders, engineers, and SDETs, with accountability for team performance, engagement, and growth.
- Implement quality engineering standards, practices, and governance established by segment and enterprise leadership.
- Drive quality planning and execution across functional, integration, end-to-end, regression, and release validation activities.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, and delivery leaders to ensure quality is embedded in planning, design, development, and release processes.
- Oversee defect management activities, including triage coordination, trend analysis, root cause follow-up, and corrective action tracking.
- Support release readiness assessments and ensure validation activities are completed for production deployments.
- Advance automation adoption across assigned teams, including sustainable regression coverage and improved testing efficiency.
- Help integrate automated validations and quality checks into CI/CD pipelines in partnership with engineering and platform teams.
- Coordinate non-functional quality support for assigned areas, including performance, resiliency, operational readiness, and security validation activities.
- Monitor quality metrics, delivery trends, and production outcomes to identify risks and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Escalate systemic quality concerns, portfolio risks, and capacity constraints to Director leadership as needed.
- Contribute to quality engineering modernization efforts through adoption of enterprise tools, reusable frameworks, and improved ways of working.
- Enable AI-assisted quality engineering within governed guardrails by piloting and scaling approved capabilities (e.g., test case generation assistance, risk-based prioritization insights, defect clustering/summarization, self-healing suggestions) to improve efficiency and signal quality.
- Promote responsible AI use on teams by ensuring AI outputs are validated, traceable where required, and aligned with security/privacy/compliance expectations; surface AI adoption learnings and needs to segment leadership.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, quality engineering, testing, or related technical disciplines.
- 3+ years of leadership experience managing quality engineering, test automation, or software delivery teams in enterprise environments.
- Experience leading quality engineering activities across multiple agile teams or complex applications.
- Demonstrated experience improving quality engineering practices, including automation, process improvement, and metrics-based execution.
- Strong understanding of Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices.
- Experience with API, UI, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing approaches.
- Familiarity with distributed systems and modern application architectures.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across product, engineering, and operational teams.
- Experience working in matrixed organizations and coordinating across distributed teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare or another highly regulated industry.
- Familiarity with member, provider, digital experience, or enterprise platform domains.
- Experience with enterprise quality tools, test management platforms, and engineering lifecycle tools.
- Knowledge of microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience supporting non-functional testing, including performance and resiliency.
- Exposure to AI-enabled quality engineering or intelligent automation capabilities.
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture principles, patterns, and standards across cloud, hybrid, on-premise, and SaaS environments.

Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.
Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
$142,300 - $195,700 per year
This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
