Key Responsibilities
- Drive strategic initiatives, execute business plans, and maintain a big-picture perspective.
- Lead financial integrity and collaboration in managing accounting systems and processes.
- Oversee all accounting and financial functions, including accounts payable, payroll, reporting, billing, taxes, P&L, asset management, collections, and budgeting.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Manage cash flow, forecasting, and short- and long-term financial analyses.
- Maintain accounting systems and records and implement and monitor key financial and operational controls.
- Develop and enforce internal processes, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Monitor cash flow and P&L performance and review bank accounts daily.
- Provide financial and project accounting leadership aligned with operational and strategic goals.
- Review monthly reconciliations, resolve discrepancies, and oversee balance sheet, revenue estimates, expenses, and allocations.
- Manage monthly and year-end closing processes and ensure deadlines are met.
- Participate in audits and oversee tax compliance and licensing.
- Coordinate the submission of financial data to an external accounting firm for annual review.
- Lead and support accounting team members, including Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Assistant Controller functions.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of related work experience ; construction or rail industry experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP .
- Superior ability to handle complex account reconciliations, budgets, financial reports, and related accounting functions.
- Highly proficient computer skills with the ability to learn and use specialized accounting software, including Timberline and Viewpoint .
- Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily desk work with occasional walking, standing, and meetings with employees.
- Ability to travel to various divisions and attend meetings as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. for items such as files and computers.
- Occasional bending required.
Travel Requirements
Minimal travel required, with occasional travel to other divisions and for conferences, workshops, seminars, meetings, and training.
