We are seeking a highly analytical and technically curious Technical Cost Analyst, IT Cost Transparency & Optimization to join our IT Cost Transparency team. This role is responsible for analyzing infrastructure consumption, technology assets, financial data, and operational metrics to identify opportunities for cost optimization, rationalization, and improved technology investment decisions.
The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with foundational knowledge of IT infrastructure, including compute, storage, cloud, network, and data center technologies. Working closely with infrastructure engineering, architecture, finance, procurement, vendor management, and service owners, the Technical Cost Analyst will transform complex technology and financial data into actionable insights, business cases, and recommendations that support cost efficiency and strategic technology decisions.
This position is well suited for professionals with 1-5 years of experience in infrastructure operations, FinOps, technical analytics, technical asset management or related disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Cost Analysis

Analyze infrastructure environments including storage, compute, network, cloud, backup, and platform services to identify cost reduction and optimization opportunities.

Evaluate technology consumption, utilization, capacity, and growth trends using operational and financial datasets.

Develop insights around asset utilization, underused resources, redundant technologies, and consolidation opportunities.

Support infrastructure demand forecasting and cost modeling activities.

Data Analysis & Cost Transparency

Consolidate and analyze data from multiple sources, including:

CMDB platforms

Infrastructure monitoring tools

Cloud and platform usage reports

Purchase orders

Vendor contracts

Invoice data

Asset inventories

Financial systems

Architecture and engineering documentation

Perform data validation, reconciliation, and trend analysis to ensure accuracy and consistency across sources.

Create dashboards, reports, and analytical models to support technology cost transparency initiatives.

Business Case Development

Develop financial and technical business cases supporting infrastructure optimization initiatives.

Build hypotheses regarding cost reduction, consumption efficiency, technology modernization, and rationalization opportunities.

Quantify potential savings, cost avoidance, investment requirements, and operational impacts.

Translate complex data findings into clear, concise, communications for diverse audiences

Partner with infrastructure engineers, architects, service owners, procurement teams, and finance partners to understand technology environments and validate assumptions.

Identify opportunities to improve cost management processes, reporting capabilities, and data quality.

Contribute to automation and standardization of reporting, analytics, and business case development processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Analysis & Insights

- Has ownership, maintenance, and collection responsibility for data assets in the functional production support process
- Collect, clean, and analyze data from multiple sources using tools like SQL, Excel, Python, or Tableau
- Identify patterns, trends, and correlations to support descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics

Technical Communications

- Assist with creation of branding, communication, and training materials
- Translate complex data findings into clear, concise, communications for diverse audiences
- Develop and maintain digital asset libraries (e.g., multimedia content, documents) for easy retrieval and reuse

Skills & Qualifications:

Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis tools (SQL, Excel, Python, Tableau), statistical methods, and visualization software.

Technical Skills: Demonstrated familiarity with AI concepts and how they are applied in an organization, such as but not limited to:

- Programming (Python mainly)NumPy, Pandas, SciPyClean code, debugging, version control (Git)
- Machine Learning BasicsSupervised & unsupervised learningRegression, classification, clusteringModel evaluation (accuracy, precision, recall, etc.)
- Data Handling & PreprocessingData cleaning, transformationFeature engineeringWorking with structured + unstructured data
- Familiarity with Technology Business Management (TBM), Apptio, or IT Finance helpful, but not required

Communication Skills: Strong written, verbal, and visual communication, ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Ability to story tell: to write and speak clearly to inform diverse audiences.

- Experience with SharePoint and PowerPoint
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data organization, formulas, basic analysis)
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail

Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects, maintain accurate records, and follow documentation standards with strong attention to detail.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Business Analytics, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field.
- 1-5 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
- IT infrastructure, Technology Operations
- FinOps
- IT asset management
- Technology financial management
- IT analytics
- Technology consulting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret large datasets.
- Experience working with Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
- Experience creating reports, dashboards, and presentations for stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to translate technical information into business-focused recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

- Familiarity with infrastructure technologies such as:
- Storage platforms
- Virtualization environments
- Servers and compute platforms
- Cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Network infrastructure
- Backup and recovery technologies
- Demonstrated familiarity with AI concepts and how they are applied in an organization, such as but not limited to: Programming (Python mainly), Machine Learning Basics, Data Handling & Preprocessing
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Snowflake, ServiceNow, or similar reporting and analytics platforms.
- Understanding of IT financial management, chargeback/showback, TBM, FinOps, or cost allocation methodologies, nice to have, but not required.
- Exposure to vendor management, contract analysis, software licensing, or procurement processes, nice to have, but not required.
- Knowledge of CMDB structures and IT asset management practices.
- Experience building financial models or business cases.

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
$73,400 - $100,100 per year
This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
