About the Opportunity

As a Wellbeing Navigator Peer, you'll walk alongside people in our community on their mental health and wellbeing journey, offering guidance through a range of person-centred supports and services. You'll help individuals connect with what matters most to them, whether it's achieving personal goals, fostering healing, finding social inclusion or strengthening their sense of belonging.

This is a unique opportunity that exists with the goal of making sure everyone in our community is supported, included and empowered.

Key elements of your new role will include:

- Welcome people accessing the service and assist with intake processes
- Provide intentional, strengths-based peer support
- Offer one-on-one support and collaborative care planning
- Assist people to navigate and access mental health, wellbeing and community services
- Support people to build everyday skills, resilience and confidence

To be successful in this role, you will need:

- Demonstrated lived experience and recovery of mental health challenges, psychological distress and/or substance use or addiction, or experience supporting someone with lived experience, and the ability to draw on this appropriately and purposefully (mandatory)
- Personal lived experience of mental health challenges, psychological distress, substance use or addiction and/or engagement with mental health and addiction services, or lived experience as a family member, carer or supporter, together with the ability to intentionally and safely use lived experience knowledge to build connection, mutual learning, hope and possibility, is an inherent requirement of this role.
- This role is designated for a person with personal lived experience pursuant to section 28 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).
- Certificate IV in Mental Health, Mental Health Peer Work, or Community Services (completed or in progress), or a willingness to undertake it, or equivalent lived experience workforce knowledge, skills and practical experience.
- Evidence of right to work in Australia
- Current valid Driver’s License and the ability to undertake travel for the role
- Satisfactory National Police Check, Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to undertake
- NDIS Workers Orientation Module certificate – free online course

About the service

Wellways, Mildura Public Base Hospital, Malee District Aboriginal Services and Sunraysia Community Health are working together to provide mental health and wellbeing supports Mildura to ensure everyone can access treatment and care closer to home.

The Mildura Mental Health and Wellbeing Local will provide welcoming and inclusive support for people aged 26 years and over who are experiencing mental health challenges, including people with co-occurring alcohol and drug addiction treatment and care needs.

We are working with the local community and people who have a personal experience of mental health issues and recovery to build these services so they are the best they can be. Our services are co-designed by consumers, carers and the local community.
