About this role

He kōrero mō mātou | About Watercare

Ki te ora te wai, ka ora te whenua, ka ora te tangata

When the water is healthy, the land and the people are healthy

There's never been a better time to join Watercare. We're delivering a $15.2 billion, 10-year capital investment programme, the largest in our history, creating opportunities to work on transformative infrastructure, sustainability and digital projects that will shape Auckland's future. With more than $4 million invested every day, you'll be part of work that makes a lasting difference to our communities and environment.

• Māngere based
• $29.90 per hour starting rate with regular pay increases
• Complete a New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering Theory and Practice (Level 3) and an Instrumentation and Control apprenticeship qualification while you earn
• Fixed-term, full-time: Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm

We have an exciting Instrumentation Apprenticeship opportunity available for a motivated and enthusiastic person who wants to earn while they learn. This programme provides the opportunity to develop practical skills and build a rewarding career while supporting our Maintenance Delivery team in the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems across Watercare's treatment plants and networks.

As an Instrumentation Apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience working with a wide range of equipment including sensors, analysers, transmitters, telemetry, control systems, and automated plant equipment. You'll learn how to fault-find, calibrate instruments, interpret technical drawings, and help ensure critical systems operate safely and efficiently.

We're looking for someone who:
• Is a team player with good communication skills
• Has a strong health and safety focus
• Is willing to work occasional overtime and weekends when required (this would be the exception rather than the rule)
• Has good literacy and numeracy skills
• Has an interest in electronics, automation, technology, or engineering
• Has a desire to work in the water industry
• Enjoys practical problem-solving and hands-on work
• Holds a clean, full driver's licence

Most importantly, we're looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong motivation, and a willingness to learn.

Full training will be provided for the successful applicant. You'll receive industry-leading support while working towards nationally recognised qualifications, gaining valuable practical experience, and developing specialised skills in instrumentation, automation, and control systems. For someone who demonstrates commitment, capability, and drive, there are excellent opportunities for future career growth within Watercare.

This is a rare opportunity to join a great team and build a career that makes a real difference to Tāmaki Makaurau. You'll help maintain the critical monitoring and control systems that support Auckland's water and wastewater infrastructure while working for Aotearoa New Zealand's largest water and wastewater utility, Watercare.
