Where the team fits in
This role sits within Launchpad, part of REA’s Global Technology group. Launchpad’s mission is to empower REA with great technology, including a market-leading data platform.
Our strategic ambition is to be the leader in data intelligence, powering world-class products and experiences. We do this by:
- We provide the REA data platform that supports all REAs data processing, management and sharing; including data processing and enrichment, storage, discoverability, insights and governance
- Improving the quality, access and usage of our data for staff, consumers and customers.
- Building reusable data products that unlock the value of our data
Investing in the reliability, quality and security of systems and data
What the role is all about
As Senior Product Manager (Data Mesh Enablement), you will lead product discovery and strategic initiatives that help REA adopt data-as-a-product thinking and realise greater value from its federated data operating model.
You will be a key product voice within the Data Mesh Enablement squad, working closely with the Head of Data, Engineering Manager and squad members to build and maintain a long-term roadmap. The role is hands-on and discovery-led: you will identify and prioritise the highest-value opportunities, design effective discovery approaches, and translate strategic data priorities into practical initiatives that can be adopted across the enterprise.
Your role will be to:
- Work with business stakeholders, data domain owners and data product owners to understand their goals and pain points, and help them define data products that are valuable, discoverable, trustworthy, reusable and fit for purpose
- Manage a clear portfolio of data product use cases and opportunities across the enterprise, ensuring that ideas are assessed, prioritised and connected to strategic outcomes, business value and delivery capacity.
- Lead discovery and problem definition for initiatives spanning federated data governance, data domain model and ownership, data-as-a-product practices, data product lifecycle management, value realisation and measurement
- Define and roll out consistent data product discovery approaches, workshops and methodologies. Build reusable templates, playbooks and paved paths that make it easier for teams to identify opportunities, define data products, clarify ownership, establish lifecycle expectations and progress from discovery to delivery
- Develop and maintain a long-term, outcome-driven roadmap for the Data Mesh Enablement squad, aligned to REA’s data strategy, business priorities and OKRs
- Partner with Data Management, Data Business Partners, data domains and delivery teams to support the rollout and adoption of new practices
- Establish effective engagement forums and feedback loops, create shared clarity across diverse stakeholder groups, and communicate complex data concepts in a way that supports informed decisions and sustained adoption
Who we’re looking for
You are an experienced product manager who combines strong product discovery and stakeholder leadership with a genuine understanding of data, data products and the operating model needed to create value from them. You are comfortable working across business and technical communities, navigating ambiguity and turning complex organisational challenges into practical, measurable initiatives.
You will bring:
- Product management experience: At least five years’ experience in Product Management or Product Development, with experience owning complex products, platforms, portfolios or strategic initiatives
- Data product understanding: A strong understanding of data-as-a-product thinking, including the importance of clear use cases, ownership, discoverability, quality, trust, lifecycle management and measurable value
- Data and technology fluency: Experience working closely with data engineers, software engineers, data management, analytics or technology teams, and the ability to understand technical concepts well enough to shape pragmatic product outcomes
- Discovery and facilitation skills: Proven ability to lead discovery in complex environments, frame ambiguous problems, design effective workshops, synthesise diverse perspectives and translate user needs into clear product opportunities and outcomes
- Strategic thinking and execution: Ability to connect market, organisational and stakeholder insights to an appropriate strategic approach, then carry that strategy through prioritisation, delivery, adoption and benefit realisation
- Outcome-based prioritisation: Strong analytical skills and experience using evidence, feedback and measures to prioritise opportunities, track performance and demonstrate value
- Stakeholder leadership: Excellent communication, storytelling and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with business stakeholders, data practitioners, engineers, product teams and senior leaders
- Adoption and change orientation: A track record of helping teams adopt new products, practices or ways of working, supported by clear engagement approaches, feedback loops and continuous improvement.
- Commercial and organisational judgement: The ability to consider the whole-business context, manage risk, understand trade-offs and recommend approaches that are practical, sustainable and aligned to organisational goals
- Collaborative leadership: A constructive, curious and outcomes-focused approach, with the confidence to lead strategic initiatives through influence rather than formal authority
