Social Care Worker, Under 18 Residential Services, Caretakers, Dublin

Location: Dublin City

Contract: Full Time, Specific Purpose

The Purpose if this role is to provides emergency accommodation to young people, aged 16 & 17, who cannot be cared for in their own home or Alternative Care Arrangements e.g., Residential Unit. Its primary aim is to help the young people attain stability during this crisis period whilst Tusla develops accesses more stable accommodation.

What you will do:

- Treat young people and their families with dignity, respect and unconditional positive regard, promoting their rights, responsibilities and active participation in decisions affecting their care.
- Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, caring and stable environment, supporting the physical, emotional, social, cultural, ethnic and spiritual wellbeing of each young person.
- Develop positive, trauma-informed relationships with young people, recognising the impact of previous life experiences and responding appropriately to their individual needs and behaviours.
- Plan, implement, review and evaluate placement plansas part of the team, ensuring young people are actively involved and that accurate written and verbal reports are maintained in line with project policy.
- Work in partnership with parents, families, significant others, professionals and external agencies, participating in care meetings, Court proceedings and transfers or referrals to other services where required.
- Meet the day-to-day care needsof young people, including preparing nutritious meals, supporting attendance at school, training, medical and clinical appointments, and facilitating appropriate recreational and developmental activities.
- Undertake key working, individual and group work, acting as one of two key workers where required and providing clear written and verbal feedback on each young person’s progress.
- Promote safeguarding and positive risk managementboth on and off site, protecting young people from abuse and bullying and completing Individual Absence Management Plans in line with Missing from Care procedures.
- Respond appropriately to crisis, challenging, volatile or potentially violent situations, remaining calm and participating in agreed crisis management procedures, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
- Support the effective day-to-day management of the residential environment, including household budgeting, upkeep, cleaning, hygiene and the appropriate management of young people’s personal documentation, information and finances.
- Work effectively as part of the team, ensuring consistency of interventions between shifts, accurate handovers and effective communication, and providing shift leadership when required.
- Act as a positive role modeland develop strong links with neighbours, community resources, clubs, local Gardaí and other relevant services to support positive outcomes for young people.
- Adhere to all relevant Health & Safety legislation, policies and emergency procedures, reporting concerns, incidents or questionable practice promptly to the Manager or designated person.
- Participate in regular professional supervision, training and continuous professional development, taking responsibility for maintaining and improving knowledge, skills and professional practice.
- Support the administration, accountability and effective use of resourceswithin the service, including budget and petty cash management, recording and reporting significant events, maintaining confidentiality and data protection requirements, cooperating with statutory inspections, and adhering to all relevant local and national policies, procedures and HIQA requirements.

What you will need:

- A third-level qualification at degree level in Social Care or a related area, such as Youth Work, Social Studies, Addiction Studies, Psychology, or similar, and/or be a CORU-registered Social Care Worker.
- A minimum of one year's direct experience in the social care field, working with disadvantaged or vulnerable young people.
- An understanding of theory and practice in the delivery of Residential Childcare Services.
- An understanding of therapeutic approaches relevant to the client group.
- Sufficient awareness of policy, legislative and professional requirements to ensure an appropriate standard of service delivery.
- The ability to manage self in a busy working environment including the ability to prioritise workloads.
