About this role
The Tesla Energy Product and Service Engineering team is looking for a passionate, collaborative, and skilled Product Engineer to join the team to support the explosive growth of our Industrial Storage fleet. As the Industrial Storage fleet grows, Tesla is committed to having an industry-leading uptime in our deployed fleet of commercial and utility scale batteries. We use data collected from our highly connected systems to find problems before the customer does and to systematically eliminate the causes of downtime. You will work with a team of engineers to diagnose design, process, firmware and software failures in our fleet of energy storage systems. Once the root cause has been identified, you will lead the effort to develop automated detection for the issue and recommend corrective actions that will reduce the risk of these failures recurring. Ultimately, you will be responsible for improving the uptime in Tesla’s stationary batteries used by commercial and utility scale customers in grid connected and microgrid applications. To be successful in this role, you will need to be skilled at analyzing data through SQL, as well as have a fundamental understanding of electronic systems, mechanical systems, and computer networks. If you thrive at the intersection of hardware, data, and automation, this role was built for you.
Mine telemetry from Tesla's Industrial Storage fleet to characterize the diagnostic fingerprint of failure modes Leverage Tesla automation tools to programmatically diagnose and react to future occurrences of a failure mode Support cross-functional efforts to troubleshoot, resolve, and systematically prevent hardware, software, and firmware issues that cause downtime for Tesla’s Industrial Storage customers Drive resolution of global detection escalations to ensure operational efficiency and minimize system downtime for Tesla’s customers Analyze fleet data to surface product insights and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to evaluate the impact of proposed hardware or process changes
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience Experience using SQL and Python for data analysis on very large databases Strong engineering fundamentals and intuition, applied to firmware/software-enabled systems Prior experience troubleshooting electrical, system, firmware, or process failure modes Proven cross-functional leadership and collaborative skills Excellent attention to detail Experience with battery systems and power systems is a plus
