Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating institutions statewide, which house approximately 5,800 inmates. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Additional $3/hour facility differential for hours worked.

DUTIES:
*Checks for outdated medications and removes them from usable inventory.
*Assists pharmacist in filling prescriptions and prepares medication for distribution, all medications are checked by a licensed pharmacist before distribution.
*Ensures proper safety and security measures are observed throughout the delivery process.
*Maintains accurate counts of controlled substances and ensures proper record-keeping of all transactions related to controlled substances.
*Prepares floor-stock and controlled substance items pursuant to requests for said items.
*Inspects pharmaceuticals for proper labeling and storage, expiration dates, sanitary conditions and security measures.
*Assists in annual inventory of all medication.
*Prepares medications for discharges and outpatients, maintains prescription files and packages medications for delivery.
*Performs various clerical duties related to pharmacy.
*Serves as a liaison between pharmacist staff, computer software companies and drug wholesalers to resolve problems.
*Performs routine housekeeping duties to maintain sanitary conditions of the pharmacy.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age; have high school diploma or equivalent; no misdemeanor or felony convictions of any non-alcohol, drug related crimes AND registered by a state or national certifying body approved by the State of Nebraska Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician.

Other: Incumbents must be able to demonstrate completion of a board approved state or national pharmacy technician certification program. Incumbents must maintain certification as a pharmacy technician. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass a medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
