About This Opportunity
Sierra Health Foundation is recruiting for one vacancy within our Finance team. Depending on the qualifications, depth of grant accounting experience, and overall strength of the applicant pool, the Foundation may fill this position at either the Grant Accountant or Assistant Grant Accountant level.
This flexible recruitment approach allows us to identify and hire the candidate whose experience and skills are the best match for the Foundation's current and future needs. Applicants will be considered for the position level most closely aligned with their qualifications.
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Deputy Controller, the Grant Accountant plays a key role in accounting for and financial reporting of government and non-profit grants and contracts. The Grant Accountant collaborates with Program staff to develop and monitor budgets for new and existing awards, ensuring reporting and financial objectives align with third-party grants and contracts, and works closely with Compliance staff to ensure funded partners are adhering to their financial reporting requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Funder Budgets
Work with finance and program staff to develop budgets for awarded grants and contracts funded by private foundations or government agencies
- Develop and maintain multi-year grant and contract budgets reports in SAGE Intacct
- Create multi-year grant reporting in SAGE Intacct and Adaptive
- Financial Reports and Invoicing
Financial reporting for reimbursement of expenses
- Review invoices for reimbursement by internal deadline to meet funders requirement
- Prepare supplemental information only reports for funders as requested
- Make sure all expenses have been posted to the general ledger
- Include any additional expenses not reported on the prior invoice
- Ensure payroll allocation is accurate and agrees with the grant budget
- Post entries to record direct, indirect revenue and grants receivable
- Post entries to record recognition of deferred revenue
- Reconcile all totals to approved budget before finalizing invoice
- Route invoice in Concur for payment after compliance review and approval
- Track compliance reports then make it available to funder
- Reconcile multi-year grant report to invoice totals
- Financial reporting for actual grant expenses
Review financial reports of partners by internal deadline to meet funders requirement
- Make sure all expenses have been posted to the general ledger
- Include any additional expenses not reported in the prior financial report
- Reconcile all totals to general ledger before finalizing financial report
- Prepare budget modification when required
- Give final financial report or budget modification to Program Officer to execute with partner
- Give final financial report or budget modification to Program Officer to send to funder
- Reconcile multi-year grant report to financial report totals
- Other tasks that are related to this position
Provide additional analysis relating to partners invoices and expenses as needed
- Act as backup to other grant accountants Controller as needed
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

- 2+ years nonprofit accounting experience, especially grant budgeting and reporting
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency with the following software:
SAGE Intacct
- Salesforce
- Concur
- Adaptive
- Microsoft Office (advanced Excel)
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field preferred, 4 years of progressive accounting experience , including 1 year as a grant account can be used in lieu of a degree
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret studies, proposals, reports, journals, financial and database reports, grant agreements, contracts and memos
- Ability to compose business correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to grantees, employees of the organization and others
- Ability to facilitate small group meetings
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Requires a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation
- Ability to respond to common inquiries from partners, applicants, grantees, contractors and members of the community in a timely manner
- Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- The work requires continual attention to detail in data entry, analysis of contracts, composing, typing and proofing materials
- Must have excellent time management, ability to plan and organizational skills
- Must have knowledge of office administration procedures and the use of and operation of standard office equipment
- Must be able to work independently, take direction and exercise sound judgement within a team in a small office setting on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with flexibility
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse communities and life experience
COMPUTER SKILLS
- Must be proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office, Outlook, database software, accounting software (e.g., SAGE Intacct), Adobe Acrobat, and internet use.
- Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGULATION
CPA license a plus

COMPENSATION
Sierra Health Foundation is committed to equitable and transparent compensation practices.
The hiring range for the Grant Accountant is = $40.00 - $42.00 per hour.
The hiring range for the Assistant Grant Accountant is = $32.00 - $35.00 per hour.
Starting compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, skills, and internal equity considerations. As part of our commitment to pay transparency and consistency, compensation offers are not negotiated above the posted hiring range.
