Job Title: Critical Facilities Engineer Job Description This role supports the critical infrastructure required for an on-site quantum computing system in Huntsville, AL. The Critical Facilities Engineer works closely with an established facilities team to ensure that mechanical, cooling, and building systems operate reliably, are properly maintained, and continuously improved to meet mission-critical performance requirements. Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain HVAC systems, chillers, pumps, valves, sensors, and other mechanical building systems to ensure reliable performance.
- Monitor, interpret, and troubleshoot Building Management Systems (BMS), including building controls, alarms, and system alerts, to maintain stable facility operations.
- Perform and support preventive and corrective maintenance activities on mechanical and building systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues, identify underlying problems, and assist with root cause failure analysis to improve system reliability and maintenance practices.
- Maintain and update facilities procedures, maintenance documentation, and BMS documentation to ensure accurate records and standardized processes.
- Coordinate and communicate with outside vendors and service providers for maintenance, repairs, and system upgrades as needed.
- Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule to support critical facility systems and respond to emergencies within an appropriate time frame.
- Contribute to improvements in maintenance practices, training, system reliability, and long-term facility processes for mission-critical environments.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of hands-on commercial or industrial facilities experience.
- Experience operating and maintaining HVAC systems and chillers in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and building controls, including monitoring and troubleshooting alarms and system alerts.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems, including pumps, valves, and sensors.
- Demonstrated experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical and building systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to perform root cause analysis and root cause failure analysis on equipment issues.
- Ability to participate in and reliably support a 24/7 rotating on-call schedule for critical facility systems.
- Experience working in mission-critical or high-reliability facility environments is preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with compressed gases or cryogenic liquids is a plus, particularly in mission-critical or high-reliability settings.
- Experience in facilities maintenance or facilities management supporting critical facilities is highly beneficial.
- Experience working with BMS and building controls in environments that support advanced technologies such as quantum computing.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with an established facilities team and external vendors.
- Strong documentation skills for maintaining facilities procedures, maintenance records, and BMS documentation.
- Commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement in a mission-critical environment.
Work Environment This position is fully on-site in Huntsville, AL in a hands-on commercial and industrial facilities environment that supports critical mechanical and building systems for an on-premises quantum computing system. The role involves regular interaction with HVAC systems, chillers, pumps, valves, sensors, and building controls, and requires the ability to climb ladders, access rooftops, and lift up to 50 pounds. The engineer participates in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule to support mission-critical operations and is expected to respond to emergency situations within a practical commuting distance. The work environment emphasizes reliability, safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to cutting-edge computing infrastructure while collaborating with an experienced facilities team.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $52.88/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
