Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Job Description This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on designing and developing mechanical components, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment using SolidWorks and other 3D CAD tools. You will create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings, collaborate closely with production, quality, and engineering teams, and support prototype and production builds. The position plays a key role in improving manufacturability, product performance, and sustainability by contributing to innovative solutions that help manufacturers recover valuable resources, reduce waste, and enhance environmental impact. Responsibilities
- Develop precise 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
- Design mechanical components, tooling, fixtures, and custom mechanical equipment to support manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to ensure designs meet manufacturability, performance, and quality requirements.
- Support prototype and production builds by providing design input, assisting with assembly, and participating in testing and validation activities.
- Revise, update, and maintain engineering documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), drawing revisions, and documentation control records.
- Apply engineering drawing standards and basic GD&T principles to ensure clear, accurate, and manufacturable designs.
- Troubleshoot design-related issues on the shop floor, analyze root causes, and implement design improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product performance, reducing costs, and improving manufacturing processes.
- Work with cross-functional teams to improve products and processes, ensuring effective communication and alignment across engineering, production, and quality.
- Leverage knowledge of machining, fabrication, plumbing, assembly, and other manufacturing processes to optimize designs for manufacturability.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
- Approximately 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering or mechanical design.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software for creating 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
- Strong mechanical design engineering skills, including designing components, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing equipment.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, plumbing, fabrication, and assembly, with the ability to design for manufacturability.
- Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings, including familiarity with basic GD&T principles and documentation control.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving design and manufacturing issues.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with production, quality, and engineering teams.
- Hands-on capability and comfort working with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing or shop environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in the water industry is a plus, particularly in applications related to resource recovery or wastewater treatment.
- Experience in process controls is a plus, including exposure to control systems used in manufacturing or process environments.
- Experience in fluid dynamics is a plus, especially in designing systems involving fluid flow and related mechanical components.
- Hands-on experience in a manufacturing or shop environment is highly valued, including direct involvement with machining, fabrication, plumbing, and assembly processes.
- Experience in project management, including coordinating design activities and supporting cross-functional projects, is beneficial.
- Familiarity with drafting standards, fabrication processes, and machine design principles enhances performance in this role.
- Interest in sustainability, circular economy principles, and innovation in resource recovery is an advantage.
Work Environment The role operates in a combined office and shop environment, offering the opportunity to move between design workstations and hands-on manufacturing areas. You will use SolidWorks and other engineering tools in the office while collaborating directly with production teams on the shop floor to support builds, testing, and troubleshooting. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $100000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Competitive base salary commensurate with experience. As part of the package, you'll receive a stock option grant alongside comprehensive company-sponsored medical, dental, and vision coverage. Additional benefits include 15 days of paid time off per year plus observed holidays, and a 401(k)-retirement plan.
