Job Description:
Arizona PBS seeks an experienced, creative education professional to serve as Education Program Manager within the Education Outreach department. This role brings together the statewide leadership of Arizona PBS's flagship Super Why! Camp literacy initiative, the facilitation and growth of Family Math workshops, and support for education and community outreach impact projects. The ideal candidate has experience coaching or leading other educators, can successfully manage the logistics of multiple concurrent programs across different timelines and locations, and brings a resourceful, innovative, and ed-tech-savvy approach to program and lesson design. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Education and plays a central role in the department's move from ad hoc program delivery toward sustainable, repeatable systems. Candidate must reside in the greater Phoenix area.
Position Salary Range:
- $57,900 - 67,900 per year; DOE
Essential Duties:
- Super Why! Camp Leadership (50%)
Lead the end-to-end statewide execution of the Super Why! Summer Camp, a free, three-week literacy-based kindergarten readiness program for 4- and 5-year-olds. This includes managing the logistics of numerous camps running simultaneously across the state, each on its own three-week schedule between late May and July, delivered in partnership with schools, community organizations, churches, and tribal programs across Arizona.
- Serve as a strategic partner in identifying and securing new camp sites across the state, building and maintaining relationships with school districts, community organizations, churches, and tribal partners to meet or exceed annual site and grant stretch goals.
- Recruit, train, and coach camp facilitators on the Super Why! curriculum, including the five daily literacy themes (letter identification, rhyming and word families, letter sounds and spelling, vocabulary and comprehension) and the five pillars of literacy (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension).
- Oversee the preparation, inventory, and delivery of camp materials, take-home resources, and branded supplies to sites across all participating counties, coordinating logistics with prep and resources staff.
- Manage frequent, proactive communication across all stakeholders, including camp sites, facilitators, families, funders, and internal Arizona PBS teams, to ensure alignment on schedules, expectations, and deliverables.
- Take ownership of the existing camp system and identify opportunities to strengthen and streamline it season over season, providing clear direction and oversight to part-time facilitators and support staff on how camp organization and daily operations should run.
- Collect and compile student literacy data across all sites, including pre- and post-camp assessment results for letter identification, letter sounds, word reading, and comprehension.
- Track outcomes against established benchmarks (e.g., alphabet knowledge, phonological awareness, and print knowledge gains) to monitor camp impact year over year.
- Compile site-level and statewide data summaries to inform grant reporting, funder updates, and internal leadership presentations.
- Partner with the Senior Director of Education to interpret findings from the program's annual evaluation report and translate them into adjustments to camp operations, facilitator training, and materials for future seasons.
- Collaborate on camp budgets, support grant deliverables, and oversee site agreements in coordination with the Senior Director of Education, flagging risks or resource needs early.
- Lead post-camp debriefs and season recaps, capturing lessons learned and documenting processes to build a sustainable, repeatable, and scalable camp model year over year.
- Family Math Facilitation (30%)
Grow and deliver Family Math, a bilingual (English/Spanish), research-based early math initiative for children ages 2 to 5 and their families, leveraging existing PBS-affiliated resources and materials.
- Identify and solicit new opportunities with family, school, and community groups to host Family Math workshops, prioritizing regions and populations with the greatest need, serving as a polished, confident representative of Arizona PBS in building these partnerships.
- Plan and facilitate frequent Family Math sessions that build parent and caregiver confidence in everyday math (number sense, counting, patterns, shapes, sorting, spatial sense, and measurement).
- Support the Education Outreach Ambassadors to administer and co-facilitate Family Math workshops across the state, ensuring consistent delivery and messaging.
- Maintain and distribute Family Math resources, including bilingual welcome booklets, booklists, and games, to hosting sites and families.
- Track workshop attendance, site interest, and outcomes to guide where future Family Math programming is prioritized.
- Special Projects & Other Duties as Assigned (20%)
Manage Lantern (formerly Bright by Text) and promote the resource to families across Arizona. Support the Assistant Director of Education & Community Impact on outreach initiatives and community programs as they arise.
- Assist with planning and execution of community events such as Be My Neighbor Day, the Back to School Event, and others.
- Support library and museum partnerships and other community-based education collaborations.
- Provide staffing, logistics, or outreach support for new and ongoing grant initiatives as they are identified.
- Represent Arizona PBS Education Outreach at community events, conferences, and partner meetings as needed.
- Bring a creative, ed-tech-forward approach to program materials, facilitation, and training using tools such as Canva to design activities, presentations, and training materials to share program stories with families, partners, and funders.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a statewide program with multiple sites, partners, and moving parts simultaneously.
- Strong people leadership skills, including experience facilitating professional learning, coaching educators or program staff, and managing part-time, seasonal, or geographically dispersed staff.
- Comfort reviewing and interpreting student or program data to inform decisions and communicate outcomes to funders and leadership.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to manage frequent communication channels across schools, families, funders, and internal teams.
- Strong organizational and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to strengthen existing program processes and provide clear guidance to part-time staff on operational goals and expectations.
