The Fresh Food Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for leading the day-to-day quality assurance and food safety programs within the Food Center. This role provides facility-level QA oversight for finished products, ingredients, packaging, equipment, sanitation, environmental monitoring, documentation, and production practices to ensure compliance with 7-Eleven policies, product specifications, customer expectations, GFSI/SQF requirements, HACCP/Preventive Control Plan requirements, and applicable government regulations.

Please note - This position is Calgary-based and available for an on-site 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. schedule , with occasional early starts and weekend work. Salary - $60,000 - $70,000 CAD per annum. RTF, SQF and QA experience in food service, food manufacturing, and/or airline catering is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Lead daily QA activities within the Food Center, including finished product inspections, in-process checks, sanitation verification, environmental monitoring, documentation review, and release readiness.

- Perform and verify physical, sensory, organoleptic, and specification-based product evaluations, including weight, dimensions, temperature, texture, appearance, color, viscosity, packaging condition, and finished product quality.

- Review production records, HACCP/PCP records, sanitation records, receiving records, temperature logs, allergen changeover records, pre-op records, and other required food safety documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

- Maintain and support the facility HACCP/Preventive Control Plan program, including hazard analysis, monitoring, verification, reassessment, deviation management, and corrective action follow-up.

- Maintain and support applicable GFSI/SQF program requirements, including document control, internal audits, verification activities, validation support, annual reviews, and audit readiness.

- Lead GMP monitoring and enforcement on the production floor, including employee hygiene, PPE, traffic flow, foreign material control, allergen controls, sanitation practices, and product handling.

- Train, coach, and support production, sanitation, receiving, and warehouse teams on GMPs, SSOPs, SOPs, allergen controls, product quality standards, and food safety requirements.

- Conduct sanitation and pre-operational inspections; verify cleaning effectiveness using visual inspection, ATP, allergen/protein swabs, chemical concentration checks, and other approved verification methods.

- Support and maintain the environmental monitoring program, including sample collection, lab submission, result review, trend analysis, corrective actions, and escalation of adverse results.

- Verify allergen controls, including ingredient segregation, production scheduling, changeover procedures, cleaning verification, label checks, rework control, and prevention of cross-contact.

- Verify product labels, ingredient statements, allergen declarations, lot codes, best-before dates, packaging specifications, and customer/product requirements before product release.

- Conduct receiving inspections for ingredients and packaging, including temperature checks, COA review, shelf-life verification, packaging integrity, product condition, and supplier compliance.

- Place non-conforming ingredients, packaging, work-in-process, or finished goods on hold when required; maintain hold records and support disposition decisions with the Food Center Manager and QA leadership.

- Investigate quality issues, food safety deviations, customer complaints, foreign material concerns, lab failures, shelf-life concerns, and audit findings.

- Issue, track, verify, and close corrective and preventive actions related to food safety, product quality, sanitation, documentation, supplier issues, and process failures.

- Conduct mock recalls and traceability exercises independently, including ingredient-to-finished-goods and finished-goods-to-customer traceability.

- Maintain recall, withdrawal, product hold, rework, non-conformance, and disposition documentation in accordance with company requirements.

- Support shelf-life studies, lab testing, sample preparation, product investigations, sensory panels, product presentations, and new product development activities.

- Manage or support nutritional and product specification information, including Genesis Software, product specifications, ingredient data, and formulation documentation.

- Lead or support internal audits, external audits, regulatory inspections, customer audits, supplier follow-up, and audit corrective action responses.

- Monitor QA and food safety performance trends, including complaints, holds, non-conformances, EMP results, sanitation findings, label errors, audit findings, and repeat issues.

- Communicate food safety and quality risks to the Food Center Manager, QA leadership, production leadership, and other stakeholders in a timely manner.

- Support continuous improvement projects related to food safety, product quality, process control, sanitation, labour efficiency, waste reduction, and customer satisfaction.

- Provide QA coverage and direction during production, including prioritizing QA tasks, supporting production decisions, and ensuring food safety requirements are not compromised.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

- Bachelors/4 Yr Degree Experience: 2 years, BS in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry or Nutrition.

- Valid HACCP Certificate

- Knowledge of GFSI Schemes- GFSI Scheme Practitioner

- Basic laboratory experience including physical and organoleptic testing.

- Knowledge of lab procedures and interpretation of results, product development and quality assurance.

- Experience in conducting sensory panels, physical and organoleptic analyses of food as well as written summaries of results with recommendations/conclusions.

- Experience managing outside vendors for quality issues.

- Good leadership, interpersonal skills and self-direction.

Pay: $43,888.00 -$84,444.00 Annual
