IMEG is hiring an Electrical Project Designer in Atlanta, GA to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects. You will collaborate with senior staff on larger, high-complexity projects and provide engineering solutions and advice to clients.
You will support engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems for buildings while working within project budgets, mentoring staff, and collaborating across disciplines. The work supports housing and multifamily, commercial, and retail projects, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do
- Lead the analysis and design of electrical systems, including detailed designs, specifications, and calculations that meet code requirements and IMEG standards.
- Document client design decisions and instructions, and monitor design progress against percent complete and fee expended.
- Engage clients to gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain professional relationships.
- Support consulting-project execution through project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
- Analyze engineering problems and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical, efficient solutions.
- Conduct in-process reviews of electrical system designs, calculations, and specifications, and apply quality-control processes.
- Stay current on electrical engineering trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts.
- Prioritize safety and identify and mitigate electrical-system safety risks.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions.
- Identify potential project problems, seek guidance from the Project Manager, and oversee projects through bidding and construction administration.
What You'll Bring
Required Education
- Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
OR
- Associates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred
Experience
- 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
OR
- 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry
Required Skills/Abilities
- Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
- Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
- Proficient with industry standard engineering software and tools including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, or other; power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW, Easy Power, or other; and proficiency in the use of BIM software and CTC Revit Add In Tools
- Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards
- Proficient with energy compliance software such as ComCheck; Adobe or Bluebeam Revu; the use of reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
- Proficiency in Smart Engineering Design Assist (SET) Tools within Revit for electrical calculations, coordination, properties, etc. Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS
- Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
Preferred
- Engineering In Training (EIT) Certification preferred
About the Team
- Design MEP systems for high-profile commercial, mixed-use, multifamily, retail, hospitality, and restaurant projects throughout the Southeast.
- Work on complex developments involving residential and office space above retail, structured parking, specialty lighting, restaurant exhaust, and flexible tenant systems.
- Recent work includes The Collection at Forsyth, Commercial, and OpenTap: Provided engineering design for a 6,000-square-foot, ground-up self-pour bar in South Charlotte featuring indoor-outdoor gathering spaces, specialty lighting, a treehouse mezzanine, and a large patio.
