Position Description:
Supporting the Clark Builders team on the Sturgeon Data Centre project, the Fleet/Equipment Lead Hand (Shop Lead Hand) is responsible for assigning and prioritizing daily tasks, maintenance and troubleshooting operational equipment issues. They are an integral part of the site equipment management team with the expectation of providing exceptional service.
This role will be based on the Sturgeon Data Center project site located just outside of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:
- Follow a consistent and regular schedule to perform various types of maintenance on small and heavy construction equipment and various pieces of machinery
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that work done meets manufacturers specifications
- Diagnose and troubleshoot fuel, electrical, hydraulic and propane/NG systems
- Complete oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements and assorted services
- Keep all equipment in peak running condition, review and manage reports for an effective preventive maintenance program
- Recondition and replace assorted parts on all equipment
- Track and diagnose troublesome equipment for any significant wear and tear
- Communicate with Order Desk regarding rent ready status of the fleet and repair costs estimates and fill orders
- Ensuring that equipment meets all local/provincial/federal and Clark Builders/Northstar requirements
- Schedule maintenance and repairs to meet peak utilization times
- Document/communicate any customer damage to rental fleet with Field Operations Manager and/or appropriate field operations team members in a timely manner
- Troubleshoot customer equipment issues in person and over the phone
- Participate in monthly maintenance meetings and weekly toolbox safety meeting with staff to provide direction/feedback
- Develop and manage equipment maintenance files
- Support Field Operations Manager with conducting employee performance reviews
- Assist Field Operations Manager with employee disciplinary action if required
- Participate in equipment training courses and educational advancement offered by Clark Builders
- Arrange and manage industry specific safety and technical training courses for mechanics and service department
- Cover field-related responsibilities of Field Operations Manager while he is away, including dispatching Field Service Technicians
- Assist Field Operations Manager with interviewing potential field service candidates
- Carry a company phone during business hours to communicate with staff and customers
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively within a team environment
- All other assigned duties as required
Skills & Knowledge:
- Ability to operate large, heavy machinery
- Solid written and verbal communication skills and strong foundation of computer operations such as MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access
- Exhibit a high level of safety consciousness and a clear understanding of equipment safety
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of tasks in an effective, organized, and safe manner with the ability to multitask
- Flexible approach to problem solving
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
Qualifications:
- Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician is preferred
- Valid class 5 Alberta driver license with clean abstract
- 5+ years’ experience working on heavy duty equipment
- Valid first aid certificate would be an asset
- Any welding experience would be an asset

- Willingness to participate with an on-call system for after-hours support and be able to work overtime as required

Additional Information:
- Full time Monday – Friday with weekend or evening work as needed on rotation
- Overtime as needed
