Job Title: Project Engineer Job Description
The Project Engineer will support field engineering and construction operations by managing project documentation, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring that mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) elements are effectively integrated into overall project plans. This role is ideal for a construction professional with several years of hands-on experience who is comfortable working in a dynamic, evolving environment and using technology to drive project success.
Responsibilities
- Manage and process Requests for Information (RFIs), ensuring timely, accurate communication between field teams, design professionals, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare, review, and track submittals to confirm compliance with project specifications and coordinate approvals with relevant parties.
- Assist in the preparation and administration of change orders, including documenting scope changes and supporting cost and schedule impacts.
- Support field engineers and superintendents with project coordination activities, helping to resolve construction issues and keep work progressing according to plan.
- Collaborate with project management and construction teams to maintain organized project documentation and ensure information is up to date and accessible.
- Utilize computer-based tools and software to manage project data, reports, and communication in an efficient and accurate manner.
- Remain open and adaptable to working with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems as part of broader construction projects.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts as the organization restructures and grows, offering insights from field experience to enhance processes.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, subcontractors, and partners to support smooth project execution.
- Adhere to established project procedures, quality standards, and safety practices while supporting field operations.
Essential Skills
- 34 years of experience in the construction industry, specifically handling RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
- Demonstrated experience supporting field engineers and superintendents on active construction projects.
- Strong computer skills and comfort working with digital tools and software for project documentation and communication.
- Experience with project management or construction management processes and workflows.
- Understanding of construction practices and terminology, including exposure to MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and documentation streams in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear, professional communication skills for coordinating with diverse project stakeholders.

Work Environment

The Project Engineer will work closely with field engineers and superintendents, spending time both in office settings handling documentation and on project sites supporting field operations. Team members collaborate to deliver projects efficiently while adapting to changing needs and increased activity, with an expectation of professional attire suitable for both office work and visits to construction sites.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of San Jose, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job
