Continuous Improvement Engineer

Job Description

The Continuous Improvement Engineer will support operational improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment. This role will spend significant time on the production floor observing manufacturing processes, documenting current-state workflows, analyzing operational data, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and overall performance. The successful candidate will work closely with production employees and other cross-functional stakeholders to develop practical solutions, support implementation, and help establish sustainable processes across manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

- Observe and analyze manufacturing processes, workflows, and operating practices to develop a clear understanding of current-state operations.
- Identify process inefficiencies, bottlenecks, constraints, and opportunities for improvement.
- Create process maps, workflows, and other documentation to accurately capture how work is currently performed.
- Analyze operational and manufacturing data to identify trends and support improvement recommendations.
- Develop practical options for improving manufacturing processes, workflows, and ways of working.
- Present observations, findings, and recommendations to production teams and other stakeholders.
- Facilitate discussions with employees and stakeholders to evaluate potential solutions and establish improvement actions.
- Support continuous improvement projects from initial analysis through pilot activities and implementation.
- Document recommendations, decisions, process changes, and project outcomes.
- Work directly with production employees to understand both documented processes and day-to-day operating practices.
- Help transition successful improvements into standardized and repeatable processes.
- Monitor implemented changes and support adjustments where required.
- Work across different manufacturing areas and schedules as necessary to understand processes and support improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Previous experience working in a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and continuous improvement principles.
- Ability to observe manufacturing operations and develop a clear understanding of existing workflows and practices.
- Experience developing process maps, workflow documentation, work instructions, or similar process documentation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use operational and manufacturing data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Comfortable working with and interpreting large datasets.
- Ability to combine quantitative data with floor-level observations to develop practical recommendations.
- Strong proficiency with common business software used for data analysis, documentation, and presentations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to approach operational challenges from multiple perspectives.
- Comfortable spending significant time in a hands-on production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Exposure to Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, time studies, process improvement, or similar operational excellence methodologies.
- Lean or Six Sigma training or certification is considered an asset.
- Experience conducting time studies, workflow analysis, or process observations is beneficial.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate findings and recommendations.
- Ability to work effectively with employees and stakeholders across different functions and levels of an organization.
- Comfortable engaging directly with production employees and building relationships on the manufacturing floor.
- Ability to navigate differing perspectives and resistance to change in a constructive and professional manner.
- Strong observational skills with the ability to identify factors that may not be captured in existing process documentation.
- Ability to develop multiple practical solutions to manufacturing and operational challenges.
- Naturally curious and motivated to understand how processes work and how they can be improved.
- Comfortable working across different production areas or schedules as required by improvement projects.

Work Environment

This is an on-site position within a hands-on manufacturing environment. The role will involve regular interaction with production employees, technical teams, and operational stakeholders and will require significant time on the manufacturing floor. The work combines process observation, data analysis, documentation, problem-solving, and implementation of improvement initiatives. The environment is collaborative and improvement-focused, with opportunities to gain exposure to a variety of manufacturing processes and technologies while contributing directly to operational performance.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Vancouver, BC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50000.00 - $62400.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Vancouver,BC.
