Senior Mechanical Test Engineer

Job Description

The Senior Mechanical Test Engineer will support new product development by leading and executing design verification activities for complex mechanical and electromechanical products. This role works closely with cross-functional teams across design engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program management to ensure products meet technical, quality, and regulatory requirements. The position combines hands-on test development, engineering analysis, documentation, and project planning to manage multiple verification initiatives within a structured and highly regulated product development environment.

Responsibilities

- Lead and complete design verification activities across multiple new product development programs.
- Develop verification project plans based on program scope, including deliverables, timelines, resource requirements, and key technical risks.
- Identify, develop, and implement engineering test methods, equipment, and fixtures to support robust product verification.
- Create and oversee verification plans, test protocols, procedures, and technical reports.
- Review technical documentation and team deliverables to ensure accuracy, consistency, and technical rigor.
- Coordinate technical and schedule-related activities with internal teams and external partners.
- Collaborate with test, design, manufacturing, and quality engineers to investigate product or test failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Communicate project status, technical findings, risks, and test results to engineering leadership and other stakeholders.
- Develop subject matter expertise in applicable product, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve test systems through standardization, automation, new tools, and improved processes.
- Ensure verification activities and documentation comply with applicable quality and regulatory requirements.
- Follow established Quality Management System procedures and engineering documentation practices.
- Deliver assigned verification activities according to project schedules while maintaining a high standard of technical quality.

Essential Skills

- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or another closely related engineering discipline.
- Approximately 8+ years of experience in test, design, systems, or product development engineering.
- Experience working with complex mechanical or electromechanical products.
- Previous experience working in a regulated product development environment.
- Strong analytical background with the ability to apply engineering principles to complex product and testing challenges.
- Hands-on experience developing and qualifying engineering test methods, fixtures, and test equipment.
- Experience performing root cause analysis related to product issues, test failures, or unexpected system performance.
- Demonstrated experience planning and executing design verification activities.
- Ability to organize, track, and communicate multiple engineering projects and priorities.
- Experience applying statistical techniques to engineering test data.
- Strong technical writing skills with experience developing formal test plans, protocols, procedures, and reports.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills within cross-functional engineering teams.
- Ability to work effectively against project deadlines while communicating risks and technical issues proactively.
- Familiarity with mechanical design and 3D CAD software.
- Exposure to microcontrollers, data acquisition, automation, or similar technologies is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with industry-specific product safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Advanced engineering degree in mechanical, mechatronics, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- Professional engineering designation, or an interest in obtaining one, is considered an asset.
- Strong experience with mechanical testing in an R&D or product development environment.
- Experience creating and executing test plans for mechanical and electromechanical products.
- Experience working with requirements management or product lifecycle management systems.
- Experience with issue-tracking and project management tools.
- Experience using statistical analysis software for engineering testing and verification.
- Demonstrated ability to standardize test methods, processes, and technical documentation.
- Experience improving test efficiency through automation, tooling, or process improvements.
- Commitment to ongoing technical and professional development.

Work Environment

This position operates within a structured engineering and product development environment focused on complex mechanical and electromechanical systems. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams and will divide their time between office-based engineering activities and hands-on laboratory or test work. The role involves regular use of CAD, test equipment, data acquisition systems, statistical analysis tools, requirements management systems, and project tracking platforms. Work is project-driven with defined development milestones, requiring strong planning, documentation, technical communication, and adherence to established quality processes. The environment emphasizes engineering rigor, collaboration, continuous improvement, and the development of robust and repeatable verification methods.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Vancouver, BC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $57.69/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Vancouver,BC.
