Exchange Control Product Solutioning Specialist - Vice President

You will work closely with partners across sales, product, operations, and compliance to design practical solutions and deliver a high-quality client experience. Job summary

As an Exchange Control Product Solutioning Specialist within a Treasury Services product team, you will educate and advise clients on exchange control requirements for cross-border payment activity and related supporting documentation. You will review transactions for regulatory alignment, prepare and submit exchange control applications to the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Financial Surveillance Department (FinSurv), and follow submissions through to outcome. You will stay current on regulatory changes and translate them into clear guidance for clients and internal teams. You will provide exchange control input into new initiatives, process enhancements, and automation of reporting and controls.

You will partner closely with sales, product, operations, and compliance to ensure strong governance, timely escalation of higher-risk items, and consistent execution. You will contribute to continuous improvement across client onboarding, transaction execution, operational readiness, and control remediation.

Job responsibilities

- Advise clients on exchange control requirements for cross-border payment activity.

- Support clients to structure and execute transactions in a compliant and efficient manner.

- Attend client meetings as a subject matter expert on exchange control matters.

- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to validate and vet supporting documentation (where required).

- Review transactions to confirm appropriate support, accurate classification, and alignment to applicable regulations and rulings.

- Identify control gaps and drive remediation in line with governance standards.

- Prepare and submit exchange control applications to SARB FinSurv and monitor progress through to outcome.

- Liaise with internal stakeholders (sales, product, operations, compliance) and external stakeholders (SARB/FinSurv and clients) on exchange control matters.

- Escalate complex or higher-risk items promptly with clear options and recommendations.

- Contribute to automation and industrialisation of exchange control reporting and related controls.

- Provide exchange control input into new products, process changes, and initiatives impacting cross-border flows.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

- Five years of hands-on experience working directly with exchange control matters in South Africa.

- Strong working and theoretical knowledge of South African exchange control regulations and rulings.

- Knowledge of South African financial markets and an Authorised Dealer’s obligations.

- Understanding of the business and technical specifications for the Cross-Border Transaction Reporting System.

- Demonstrated operational risk awareness and a sound control mindset.

- Track record of accurate, audit-ready execution and consistent application of regulatory requirements.

- Ability to build effective working relationships across internal and external stakeholders.

- Strong prioritisation skills and ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including translating regulation into practical guidance.

- Ability to support or act for the Exchange Control Officer when required.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

- Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree or relevant financial qualification.

- Proven ownership of complex client queries or complaints through to resolution.

- Strong deadline discipline with a detail-focused, control-oriented approach.

- Continuous improvement mindset, including constructively challenging assumptions.

- Client-centric, collaborative approach across product, sales, operations, and risk partners.
