The role:
The Engineering Design Manager is the bank’s engineering design authority for Asia Pacific capital projects, ensuring designs are safe, resilient, compliant, deliverable, operationally suitable and aligned with business, workplace and real estate strategy.
The postholder coordinates project managers, consultants, contractors, landlords, operators and internal stakeholders; identifies risks, opportunities and decisions; and reports clear recommendations to the Regional Head of Engineering.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Govern design reviews and approvals for Asia Pacific capital projects from brief and concept through construction, testing and handover.
- Assess multidisciplinary building services, controls and specialist systems for compliance, safety, resilience, sustainability, operational suitability and bank standards.
- Review critical power and cooling, fire and life safety, security, business-continuity and landlord/tenant interfaces.
- Challenge proposals, deviations and changes; ensure decisions and approvals are documented and traceable.
- Identify, record and escalate material technical, compliance, cost, programme and operational risks, then track actions to closure.
- Lead technical reviews and workshops, coordinating internal teams, project managers, consultants, contractors, landlords and operators.
- Support assurance gateways, audits, procurement, tendering, commissioning and operational readiness.
- Report concise, evidence-based recommendations, ownership and target dates to the Regional Head of Engineering.
- Maintain standards, templates, checklists and lessons learned.
You’ll need to have:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline; professional registration is advantageous.
- Significant design-management, technical-assurance or project-engineering experience in complex, high-specification environments.
- Proven multidisciplinary review experience from concept through construction, commissioning and handover.
- Experience managing technical risks, changes, non-conformances and escalation across procurement and operational readiness.
- Strong stakeholder-management capability and knowledge of applicable building, fire, health and safety, environmental and engineering requirements.
