Nordson EPS is seeking a highly motivated Sr. DevOps Engineer to support and advance the organization's global software development and delivery infrastructure. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving DevOps processes and platforms that enable efficient, secure, and reliable software development across multiple product lines.
The DevOps Engineer II will work closely with software engineers, quality assurance, cybersecurity, IT, and engineering leadership to maintain CI/CD pipelines, source control systems, virtualized environments, release management processes, infrastructure automation, and software security practices, supporting the global software organization. The role also includes defining and executing a strategic roadmap to modernize and scale R&D DevOps capabilities. 5% travel may be needed.
Key Responsibilities
DevOps Infrastructure & Automation
- Design, implement, maintain, and optimize DevOps infrastructure supporting software development and testing activities.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions for automated provisioning and configuration management.
- Automate build, deployment, and validation processes to improve engineering productivity and software quality.
- Establish monitoring, logging, and reporting mechanisms for DevOps systems and services.
CI/CD Pipeline Management
- Build, maintain, and enhance continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Ensure reliable and repeatable software build, testing, packaging, and deployment processes.
- Troubleshoot pipeline failures and implement process improvements to reduce build and release cycle times.
- Collaborate with development teams to integrate automated testing and quality gates into the software delivery process.
Source Control & Repository Administration
- Administer and maintain GitHub repositories, branching strategies, permissions, workflows, and governance policies.
- Support software teams with source code management best practices.
- Implement repository security controls, code scanning, and compliance requirements.
Release Engineering
- Coordinate and manage software release activities across development, testing, and production environments.
- Define release procedures, versioning strategies, and deployment standards.
- Maintain release documentation and ensure traceability of software artifacts.
- Support product teams during release planning and deployment activities.
Virtualization & Image Management
- Create, maintain, and optimize virtual machine environments used for software development, testing, and validation.
- Develop and manage operating system images and development environments.
- Maintain containerized environments and related deployment infrastructure where applicable.
- Ensure consistency, scalability, and reliability of engineering environments.
Security & Compliance
- Implement DevSecOps practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Monitor and address infrastructure, application, and supply chain security vulnerabilities.
- Support security audits, compliance initiatives, and secure development standards.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity and IT teams to implement security policies and best practices.
Strategic Planning & Roadmap Development
- Develop and execute a multi-year DevOps roadmap aligned with R&D and business objectives.
- Identify opportunities to improve development efficiency, software quality, scalability, and security.
- Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and processes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and establish DevOps best practices across engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar role.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using industry-standard tools.
- Strong experience administering GitHub repositories and workflows.
- Experience with release engineering and software configuration management.
- Experience with virtualization technologies and system image creation/maintenance.
- Experience implementing infrastructure automation using scripting and/or infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Experience supporting Linux and Windows development environments.
- Knowledge of software security principles and DevSecOps practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and English communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, TeamCity, GitLab CI/CD, or similar platforms.
- Experience with Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, Python, Bash, or comparable automation technologies.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or container orchestration technologies.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
- Experience supporting regulated or industrial automation software environments.
- Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes and Agile methodologies.
- Knowledge of C++/C#.
