About this role

AlphaGov delivers public-sector consulting for cities, counties, school systems, special districts, utilities, and related agencies. Our work spans classification and compensation, organizational and operational studies, research and program evaluation, economic and workforce analysis, surveys and community research, and applied data and infrastructure research.

We engage experienced practitioners as project-based collaborators. Engagements are remote-first with occasional client travel. When you authorize it, AlphaGov may name you as an expert collaborator or key personnel on proposals that match your expertise. We build ready teams for live pursuits — not speculative staffing banks.

AlphaGov is engaging a Grants & Uniform Guidance Finance Consultant for current post-award research finance work with universities, research institutes, and public agencies that manage federal awards. You will bring hands-on sponsored-projects accounting experience to strengthen compliance, close out awards cleanly, and prepare for audits.

We confirm scope, schedule, and fee with you before any engagement begins.

What you'll do

- Review post-award financial processes against 2 CFR 200 cost principles, allowability, allocability, and documentation standards
- Assess effort reporting and certification practices, including cost sharing and salary charged to awards
- Analyze F&A (indirect cost) rate application, negotiated rate agreements, and cost-allocation methods on sponsored projects
- Reconcile sponsored-project ledgers, cost transfers, drawdowns, and financial reports to sponsor requirements
- Lead or support award closeouts, including final financial reports, residual balances, and subaward closeout
- Strengthen subrecipient monitoring, internal controls, and written procedures ahead of Single Audit review
- Contribute qualifications and past-performance narrative to AlphaGov proposals when you authorize naming
