Job Title: Electrical Test Technician Job Description
The Electrical Test Technician will support vehicle and component testing programs by executing test plans, setting up and operating test instrumentation, collecting high-quality data, and thoroughly documenting results. Working closely with Test Engineers, this role focuses on stability, durability, and validation testing to ensure long-term reliability of vehicles and subsystems. The position is ideal for a hands-on technician who enjoys troubleshooting, working with electrical and mechanical systems, and contributing directly to product performance and safety.
Responsibilities
- Execute vehicle and component stability tests according to established test plans, procedures, and test requirements.
- Install instrumentation, sensors, wiring, harnesses, and data acquisition equipment on vehicles and components.
- Perform complete test setups, execute test cycles, and continuously monitor system performance during testing.
- Collect, review, and document test data, measurements, and observations with a high level of accuracy.
- Maintain detailed test logs and daily activity records, including troubleshooting steps and test outcomes.
- Identify, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues that arise during testing, and communicate findings to Test Engineers.
- Operate test vehicles and perform required duty cycles and driving patterns as needed for stability and durability evaluations.
- Support validation activities by reviewing test plans and ensuring tests are executed as specified.
- Use hand tools, basic electronics tools, and equipment to assemble, adjust, and repair test setups.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to support proper installation and testing of components.
- Maintain test equipment in good working order and support 5S and general housekeeping initiatives in the lab and test areas.
- Collaborate with Test Engineers and other team members to improve test methods, resolve issues, and enhance data quality.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and testing protocols while working in both lab and manufacturing-line environments.
Essential Skills
- High School Diploma with 4+ years of relevant experience, OR an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Engineering Technology.
- Proven experience reviewing and executing test plans, test procedures, or validation activities.
- Mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting experience in a hands-on environment.
- Strong technical documentation skills, including maintaining detailed test logs and reports.
- Ability to work hands-on in a testing environment with vehicles, components, and test equipment.
- Experience working with electronics, wiring, and basic electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Proficiency using hand tools and basic test instruments safely and effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with stability, durability, reliability, or validation testing for vehicles or components.
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems and test instrumentation.
- Knowledge of CAN communication and working with CAN-based systems.
- Harness fabrication or electrical wiring experience in a test or production environment.
- Experience supporting vehicle, mechanical, or electrical subsystem testing.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Engineering Technology is a plus.
- Interest in pursuing further education, such as a Bachelor's degree in Test Engineering, to grow into higher-level engineering roles.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a passion for troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Test Engineers, technicians, and production teams.
Work Environment
This role operates in a split floor and office environment within a brand-new test facility located at the end of a manufacturing line. The test team begins performing tests immediately as products roll off the line, providing exposure to both production and test operations. You will work around vehicles, electrical and mechanical subsystems, and a variety of test and data acquisition equipment in a structured, safety-focused setting. The environment supports 5S and organized work practices. Team members have access to on-site amenities such as a medical clinic, cafeteria, and fitness facility. The position offers a clear pathway to full-time opportunities within approximately 1224 months, with potential for advancement into engineering-level roles for those who pursue further education in test engineering.

This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
