About this role
Job Title: Reliability Engineer Job Description The Reliability Engineer increases the reliability and performance of all manufacturing equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems across the site. This role provides engineering and leadership support in close collaboration with production leadership, operations, and engineering/maintenance teams to eliminate or reduce losses through root cause analysis, equipment life cycle assessment, and FMEA. The Reliability Engineer leads equipment improvement initiatives and drives asset reliability programs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment producing gummy vitamins, supplements, and related products. Responsibilities
- Support manufacturing operations by troubleshooting equipment and process problems, recommending repair techniques, and implementing equipment improvements using failure and root cause analyses.
- Drive the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Asset Reliability Program (ARP) and ensure that it is adopted and sustained at all levels of the organization.
- Participate in the design and installation of new and modified equipment and systems to ensure reliability, maintainability, and long-term performance.
- Serve as the primary contact for complex troubleshooting efforts on all manufacturing equipment and related systems.
- Inspect operating machines and equipment to verify conformance with operational standards and reliability expectations.
- Plan, develop, and implement new methods and procedures to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and optimize the use of labor and materials.
- Lead predictive and preventive maintenance activities and ensure maintenance frequencies are appropriate for all equipment based on criticality and failure history.
- Develop preventive and predictive maintenance procedures and documentation for existing and new equipment installations.
- Assist with the implementation and sustainability of critical spare parts programs and purchasing management processes.
- Focus on long-term reliability issues and apply reliability engineering principles to identify and execute effective improvements.
- Lead high-impact, complex, cross-functional improvement initiatives related to equipment and process reliability.
- Develop, monitor, and communicate critical departmental targets to improve time-to-improve (TTIs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) related to reliability and equipment performance.
- Conduct detailed investigations of equipment failures using practical problem-solving techniques to determine root cause and implement effective countermeasures.
- Apply structured analysis methods such as Pareto analysis, fault tree analysis, cause-effect mapping, and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) in root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
- Oversee corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), deviations, investigation reports (IRs), and audit action follow-ups across technical teams to ensure timely and effective closure.
- Support internal and external audits to maintain compliance with applicable regulations and internal standards.
- Provide technical training and education on equipment reliability, maintenance practices, and problem-solving tools to all levels of the organization, as applicable.
- Collaborate with utilities, facilities, maintenance, process engineering, and other departments to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance overall equipment effectiveness.
- Manage and execute process equipment projects for improvement, including design upgrades, new equipment selection, and coordination of installation and commissioning.
- Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives focused on reducing losses, improving uptime, and enhancing manufacturing support for food, beverage, and pharmaceutical-grade gummy products.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in engineering or a related field.
- Approximately 4 years of professional engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience with maintenance reliability programs in a production setting.
- Hands-on experience implementing and supporting equipment reliability programs, including preventive and predictive maintenance and life cycle planning for assets.
- Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge and aptitude relevant to manufacturing equipment.
- Knowledge of EPA and OSHA rules and regulations applicable to manufacturing operations.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and continuously changing manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.
- Strong critical thinking, practical problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage both abstract and concrete variables.
- Experience with process improvement, continuous improvement, and manufacturing support activities.
- Experience with preventive maintenance and preventive maintenance program development and execution.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with production, maintenance, utilities, facilities, and process engineering teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering (BSME) or electrical engineering (BSEE), ideally with specialization in machine design or control systems.
- Knowledge of CFR Part 211 cGMP regulations as they apply to engineering in regulated manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), servo systems, robotic systems, and closed-loop control systems.
- Experience working in manufacturing environments that support food, beverage, or pharmaceutical products, particularly vitamins and supplements in gummy form.
- Experience in lean manufacturing and maintenance engineering practices.
- Experience leading cross-functional projects involving process equipment upgrades, new equipment design, and installation.
- Ability to develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and other reliability metrics.
- Experience using analytical tools such as Pareto analysis, fault tree analysis, cause-effect mapping, and FMEA for root cause analysis and reliability improvement.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear technical training and guidance across all levels of the organization.
Work Environment The role typically operates in an office environment with a moderate noise level for planning, analysis, and collaboration activities. The Reliability Engineer also spends significant time in manufacturing and other operating areas, where there may be exposure to loud noises, running equipment, dust, and other airborne particles. The position supports a fast-paced production facility manufacturing gummy vitamins and supplements, requiring regular interaction with production lines, utilities, facilities, and maintenance teams. Standard office technologies such as Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook are used extensively, along with exposure to industrial control systems including PLCs, servo and robotic systems, and closed-loop controls.
