Bristow Special Mission Controller
Purpose
The Controller is responsible for leading the Companys finance and accounting functions, including financial reporting, accounting close, budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis, inventory and cost accounting, cash and working capital management, internal controls, audit support, and regulatory compliance. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information and compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Company policies, and applicable government contracting requirements. The Controller partners with the business leaders to provide financial insight, support strategic decision-making, and drive effective financial planning and performance management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the finance and accounting functions and maintain documented accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls designed to safeguard Company assets, ensure accurate financial reporting, and mitigate financial risk.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes and ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and internal reporting requirements.
- Oversee financial reporting and ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of reported financial results.
- Partner with business leaders in the annual budgeting and reforecasting processes and support periodic financial estimates and forecasts.
- Monitor and analyze Company financial performance, including revenue, costs, profitability, cash flow, working capital, and other key financial metrics.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to support business planning, operational performance, and management decision-making.
- Analyze actual financial performance against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods and identify significant trends, risks, and variances.
- Support cash forecasting and working capital management activities.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of inventory balances through coordination of cycle counts and annual physical inventories, periodic review of work-in-progress (WIP), and analysis of inventory reserves.
- Monitor cost of sales, cost trends, and drivers of cost fluctuations and analyze factors affecting the cost and profitability of products and services.
- Review accruals, reserves, and provisions on a periodic basis to ensure appropriate accounting treatment and financial statement presentation.
- Coordinate and support external financial audits, including preparation and delivery of requested schedules, documentation, and supporting information.
- Support compliance with applicable government contracting accounting requirements, including Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) requirements and related reporting, documentation, and audit support.
- Ensure accounting practices and supporting financial data comply with applicable Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Truthful Cost or Pricing Data requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor indirect cost pools and allocation methodologies, including fringe, overhead, and G&A rates, to support accurate government contract costing, budgeting, forecasting, billing, and compliance with applicable FAR and DCAA requirements.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen financial and accounting processes, internal controls, reporting, and operational efficiency.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to finance and accounting personnel and support the effective delivery of shared services, as applicable.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and financial analysis.
- Knowledge of government contracting accounting and compliance requirements, including FAR and DCAA requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information and identify trends and risks.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate financial information effectively to leadership and other stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, professional judgment, and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
- Proficiency with accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible accounting and financial management experience required.
- Demonstrated experience leading accounting operations and financial close and reporting processes required.
- Experience with cost accounting, inventory accounting, and standard costing strongly preferred.
- Experience with U.S. government contracting, including FAR and DCAA requirements, strongly preferred.
- Aerospace, aviation, defense, or other government contracting industry experience preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to travel as business needs require.
Work Environment
- Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment.
- This position routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and other business systems.
- The position may require occasional travel to Company, customer, or other business locations.
