Purpose of Job
The Associate Director, Head of Supply Chain leads the Bank’s approach to identifying, assessing and managing material environmental, social, operational and reputational risks across project supply chains. The role ensures effective supply-chain due diligence, risk mitigation and engagement across relevant project pipelines and portfolios, supporting consistent application of the Bank’s Environmental and Social Policy and Requirements. The role works closely with ESD leadership, Banking teams, OCCO, OGC and other relevant functions, and engages externally with clients, suppliers, MDBs, shareholders and industry bodies. Undertakes coordination and delivery of the Bank’s engagement, communications and commitments on supply chains
Background
ESD works closely and interacts daily with the banking teams and other departments as relevant to drive the shared agenda of sound environment and sustainable development.
ESD is a team of specialists responsible for the environmental and social appraisal, assessment and monitoring of Bank's portfolio of projects and activities in various sectors. ESD is responsible for, and the custodians of, the Environmental and Social Policy (ESP). Main interaction is with the Banking teams during project development and implementation, where an active participation is expected from ESD in assessing gaps against applicable policy provisions, identify and develop solutions and opportunities, and thereby ensure compliance as well as increased environmental and social transition impact, delivering sound environment and sustainable development.
The Head of Supply Chain is significantly responsible for delivering the Bank’s supply-chain due diligence, risk mitigation and engagement priorities across relevant project pipelines and portfolios, particularly in sectors with material environmental, social, operational and reputational risks. The role works closely with ESD leadership, Heads of Sector and Directors, Banking teams, OCCO, OGC and the cross-Bank supply-chain working group to align technical, legal, integrity and commercial perspectives, support consistent application of the ESP and ESRs, and coordinate responses to complex supply-chain issues. Externally, the role engages with clients, suppliers, consultants, MDBs, shareholders and industry bodies to inform project decisions, develop common approaches and promote wider industry improvements. These relationships require the role to influence senior stakeholders, build consensus across differing priorities and ensure that emerging risks and good practice are reflected in the Bank’s frameworks, contractual safeguards, monitoring arrangements and stakeholder communications
