Job Title: Director of Nursing The Director of Nursing leads all nursing operations at a new clinical research site, providing both strategic direction and hands-on clinical support during startup and growth phases. This role oversees clinic nurses, infusion nurses, nurse navigators, the referral intake team, and schedulers, ensuring that high-quality, coordinated patient care is delivered within an oncology and clinical research environment. The Director of Nursing establishes workflows and best practices, drives continuous process improvement, and ensures that nursing operations align with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and internal quality standards. Responsibilities

- Provide effective, proactive leadership for all nursing and support teams, including managers, clinic nurses, infusion nurses, nurse navigators, schedulers, and referral intake coordinators.
- Remain hands-on during startup and growth phases by performing infusions and direct patient care as needed.
- Supervise clinic nurses, infusion nurses, nurse navigators, referral intake staff, and schedulers, ensuring consistent performance and professional conduct.
- Provide ongoing professional guidance, mentorship, and development to all nurses and staff under supervision.
- Ensure departmental goals and objectives align with broader organizational priorities and are consistently met.
- Design, deliver, and oversee effective training programs to ensure staff and management teams are competent and confident in their respective roles.
- Maintain adherence and demonstrate ongoing compliance with internal standard operating procedures across all departments.
- Participate in regular review and updates of standard operating procedures to support patients, sponsors, and the organization.
- Ensure high-quality, coordinated care by clearly communicating care plans and schedules to patients.
- Respond promptly to patient calls and facilitate same-day or next-day visits for patients with time-sensitive issues.
- Provide clinical support and guidance for study coordinators, primary nurses, and treatment room nurses involved in clinical research.
- Serve as a nurse educator and preceptor for new clinical research staff, including treatment room nurses, triage LVNs, primary nurses, and study coordinators.
- Develop and implement training and education programs that support compliance with internal quality standards.
- Ensure departments use efficient, effective processes and systems to support patient care workflows and compliant care delivery in a clinical research setting.
- Apply continuous process improvement techniques to proactively identify and address opportunities for improvement in patient care and operational efficiency.
- Review all incoming clinical trial protocols for feasibility from the perspective of nursing operations and study coordinator capacity.
- Manage equitable allocation of studies across the study coordinator team to balance workload and optimize performance.
- Track, monitor, and maintain effective standards and metrics related to referral intake, new patient visits, enrollment, and screening steps in the research process.
- Lead initiatives to drive growth in patient enrollment and identify and remove barriers to new patient visits and study enrollment.
- Promote effective interdepartmental communication and collaboration with regulatory, quality, site development, pharmacy, and finance teams to ensure successful care delivery.
- Ensure compliance with federal regulations, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, and other applicable regulatory agency requirements.
- Support the effective implementation and use of the clinical trial management system (CTMS), electronic health record (EHR), and other software tools to ensure accurate documentation and data capture.
- Oversee and support nurse navigators to drive growth of the clinical research program, particularly regarding new patient referrals and accruals.
- Help establish and refine workflows and best practices for clinical operations at the new site to support a successful launch and sustainable growth.

Essential Skills

- Active registered nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum 23 years of infusion experience, ideally in an oncology setting.
- Minimum 23 years of management experience, preferably in nurse management.
- Strong leadership and team management skills across multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Demonstrated ability to provide hands-on clinical care, including infusions.
- Proficiency in clinical research processes and workflows.
- Ability to review clinical trial protocols for operational feasibility.
- Strong skills in training, coaching, and competency development for clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Experience with chart review and clinical documentation.
- Ability to ensure compliance with internal standard operating procedures, federal regulations, GCP, and other regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with electronic systems such as CTMS and EHR for documentation and data capture.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational and process improvement skills to optimize patient care workflows.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Advanced degree in nursing or leadership is preferred.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or equivalent oncology certification, such as ONS/ONCC certification, is strongly preferred.
- Chemotherapy certification and experience in oncology infusion are highly desirable.
- Previous experience in oncology clinical research is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead growth initiatives, including patient enrollment and program expansion.
- Experience working with nurse navigators and referral intake teams to support research accrual goals.
- Strong analytical skills to track and interpret metrics related to referrals, new patient visits, enrollment, and screening.
- Commitment to continuous learning, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.
- Motivation to contribute to advancing clinical research and improving patient outcomes.

Work Environment This role is based in a clinical research setting with a focus on oncology and infusion services. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Director of Nursing works on-site in a clinic environment that includes infusion areas, treatment rooms, and administrative spaces. The position uses electronic health record (EHR) systems, clinical trial management systems (CTMS), and other specialized software to support documentation, scheduling, and research operations. The environment emphasizes collaboration with regulatory, quality, site development, pharmacy, and finance teams to ensure compliant and efficient clinical care. The organization is growing and offers opportunities to shape new site operations, influence research processes, and contribute to the expansion of oncology clinical research programs. Professional clinical attire appropriate for a patient-facing, infusion and research clinic setting is expected.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Los Angeles, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $200000.00 - $215000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer match
