Manager Inova Central Laboratory Services
Inova Central Laboratory is looking for a dedicated Manager of Central Laboratory Services to join the Microbiology Department team . The Microbiology section manager leads daily laboratory operations, including staffing, timekeeping, scheduling, supply and inventory oversight, workflow coordination, troubleshooting, and maintaining an organized, well-functioning work environment. The role provides comprehensive team member leadership through recruitment, onboarding, training and competency management, performance coaching, evaluations, engagement initiatives, and adherence to required policies and documentation. The Manager represents the department in health system activities and oversees department level quality, safety, regulatory readiness, productivity, budget monitoring, and major operational projects, using data to identify trends, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.
This is a full-time Day Shift, Monday to Friday.

Manager Inova Central Laboratory Services Job Responsibilities:
- Provides project management leadership for enterprise-wide Laboratory Service Line strategic/business initiatives.
- Ensures ICL, Juniper and system Laboratory operations are within approved budgetary parameters.
- Provides technical oversight while ensuring that Laboratory Services comply with standards established by Inova Laboratory Service Line, CAP, AABB, FDA, OSHA, The Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies.
- Manage team member relations in all departments of oversight, developing individuals/teams and building customer satisfaction via an engaged staff.
- Synthesizing market, operational and financial analysis into final system deliverables is required.
- Interviews, selects, hires, trains, coaches and counsels’ individuals.
- Attend weekly, monthly and quarterly internal/external meetings with Laboratory coworkers/partners.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university in clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Histo/Cyto Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science or Health Science Administration
- Experience: 5 years of experience related experience.
- Certification: UPON START- American Medical Technologist or American Society for Clinical Pathology Board certification consistent with scope of responsibility to include Medical Lab Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Lab Technician (MLT), Histotechnician (HT), Histotechnologist (HTL), Technologist in Blood Banking (BB).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years of recent bacteriology culture plate-reading experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
- Minimum of 3 years of recent infectious disease molecular testing in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory environment.
- Experience with scheduling, competency assessment, and performance management.
- In-depth experience with CAP regulatory requirements, including compliance monitoring, inspection preparation, corrective actions, and ongoing quality oversight.
- Experience with building or testing of laboratory information systems.
- Experience with budget and productivity monitoring.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and project-management skills.
