Hiring: Safety Manager Construction
Job Description This role provides leadership and guidance for health, safety, and environmental (EHS) programs on major construction projects. The Safety Manager develops and implements site-specific EHS plans, ensures compliance with regulatory and company requirements, and partners closely with project teams, subcontractors, and field personnel to create a safe, proactive safety culture on every job site. Responsibilities
- Work directly with the Project Manager and project leadership to develop and implement an effective site-specific EHS plan that aligns with corporate, divisional, and regional EHS programs and processes.
- Assist Project Managers and EHS Managers/Specialists in coordinating subcontractor EHS protocols, including those for vendors and owner personnel working on project sites.
- Coordinate and align project EHS programs with subcontractors, supporting planning and scheduling of work to eliminate hazards, minimize risks, and proactively manage losses involving injuries or property damage.
- Coordinate and conduct quarterly comprehensive on-site EHS audits to assess compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Regularly inspect and evaluate the project site, equipment, and work processes for compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company and owner policies and procedures.
- Lead and conduct accident and incident investigations, determine root causes, and complete incident reports for Project Management review.
- Accompany injured employees to treatment and medical evaluations, ensuring all EHS protocols and reporting procedures are followed.
- Advise Project Management on industrial hygiene protocols and perform environmental monitoring as required by project conditions and regulations.
- Manage the companys Drug-Free Workplace Policy on assigned projects, ensuring proper testing procedures for pre-employment, vehicle authorization, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and follow-up situations.
- Provide training and education to project and company personnel regarding EHS requirements, including coordinating and delivering new hire EHS orientation programs.
- Administer the corporate SPAT process on assigned projects and ensure timely completion and documentation.
- Prepare and distribute weekly EHS updates to EHS leadership and project stakeholders, clearly communicating trends, issues, and corrective actions.
- Conduct safety training for project teams, including topic-specific sessions on excavation and trenching, fall protection, confined space, silica controls, and other relevant EHS topics.
- Lead weekly toolbox talks and safety meetings, actively engaging field teams and supervision in discussions about risk, controls, and safe work practices.
- Provide safety updates during project staff meetings, highlighting key metrics, incidents, corrective actions, and upcoming risk areas.
- Maintain a strong and visible field presence on job sites, engaging with employees and supervisors to coach safe behaviors and build strong safety relationships.
- Use tools such as Bluebeam and Microsoft Office to prepare reports, presentations, training materials, and documentation related to EHS activities.
- Collaborate with project teams to recognize hazards, implement controls, and manage injury cases effectively, including return-to-work coordination where applicable.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of commercial construction or similar field experience, with a strong focus on site safety.
- Concrete construction experience and familiarity with the associated safety risks and controls.
- Hands-on experience with excavation and trenching safety practices and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge and practical application of fall protection systems and safe work procedures at heights.
- Experience with confined space operations, including entry procedures, permitting, and monitoring.
- Understanding of silica exposure controls and methods to implement and verify compliance in the field.
- Bachelors degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) certification.
- Strong knowledge of applicable safety regulations and standards, including OSHA requirements.
- Proven ability to recognize hazards, assess risk, and recommend effective corrective actions.
- Injury management skills, including incident response, documentation, and follow-up.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey safety expectations and procedures.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to address complex safety challenges on active job sites.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage time effectively across multiple tasks and projects.
- Ability to conduct and deliver effective safety training sessions for diverse project teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for reporting, analysis, and presentations.
- Ability to maintain a strong field presence and positively influence safety culture through coaching and relationship-building.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- OSHA 500 certification or equivalent advanced safety training is highly valued.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam for reviewing plans, drawings, and documents related to safety planning.
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred and support effective communication with diverse crews.
- Strong public speaking skills and confidence presenting safety topics to groups of varying sizes.
- Experience leading weekly toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and project-wide safety meetings.
- Ability to provide concise, data-driven safety updates during project staff and leadership meetings.
- Demonstrated ability to engage, coach, and build trust with field employees, forepersons, and supervisors.
- Willingness and ability to travel between job sites as needed to support multiple projects.
Work Environment This role primarily supports active construction job sites, with occasional work in an office environment. The Safety Manager regularly travels between project locations to conduct audits, inspections, and training sessions. The position requires frequent standing, walking, and moving throughout large construction areas, as well as sitting for meetings and desk-based work. Climbing stairs and ladders is required to access various work areas and elevations. The work environment involves exposure to typical construction site conditions, including outdoor weather, noise, and active equipment and machinery. Standard professional and site-appropriate attire, including required personal protective equipment (PPE), is expected at all times on job sites. Some travel is required to visit and support multiple projects as business needs dictate.

This is a Permanent position based out of Arcadia, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $89000.00 - $111000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Project Bonus that you can receive every time 25% is complete
2 weeks of PTO, then you accrue hours.
