About this role

Job Title: Quality Engineer Job Description
The Quality Engineer will focus on the review, creation, and completion of First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation in accordance with AS9102 requirements. The role centers on documentation review and verification rather than hands-on product inspection. You will evaluate supplier-submitted FAIRs, prepare and review internal FAIRs, verify that all required product characteristics are properly measured and documented, and collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies. The initial assignment is expected to last 3 to 6 months to address a backlog of approximately 100 to 150 full and partial FAIRs, with the potential to transition into a full-time Quality Engineer role supporting Quality Management System development and production growth.
Responsibilities
- Review supplier First Article Inspection (FAI) packages for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with AS9102 requirements.
- Create, review, and complete internal full and partial First Article Inspections (FAIs).
- Verify that drawing characteristics, specifications, materials, and all applicable requirements are properly captured within FAI documentation.
- Identify missing, incomplete, or inaccurate information within FAI packages and ensure issues are clearly documented.
- Coordinate with suppliers to resolve documentation issues, measurement discrepancies, and noncompliant submissions.
- Maintain organized, accurate, and traceable FAI records in alignment with Quality Management System expectations.
- Prioritize and manage a high volume of FAIs to support production schedules and rapid product development activities.
- Review and validate new and updated First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with AS9102 and internal QMS requirements.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to clarify technical requirements and ensure consistent application of quality standards.
- Support continuous improvement of FAI documentation processes and practices within the quality function.
Essential Skills
- Three or more years of experience in quality engineering, supplier quality, First Article Inspection, or a related aerospace manufacturing quality role.
- Hands-on experience creating and reviewing First Article Inspection packages.
- Working knowledge of AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements.
- Experience operating within an AS9100 or similar regulated Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and technical requirements.
- Understanding of dimensional inspection principles and mechanical measurement methods.
- Ability to verify inspection results produced using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and go/no-go gauges.
- Strong documentation review and technical writing skills for preparing clear and compliant FAIRs.
- Strong record-keeping skills to maintain accurate, traceable quality documentation.
- Ability to identify discrepancies in inspection data and documentation and to resolve them effectively.
- Effective communication skills to work with suppliers and internal stakeholders on quality and documentation issues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Background in quality engineering within aerospace or avionics manufacturing environments.
- Experience with First Article Inspection Reporting (FAIR) tools and processes.
- Familiarity with structured Quality Management Systems and continuous improvement practices.
- Ability to manage priorities and deadlines while handling a high volume of FAI documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to reviewing technical data.
- Comfort working with rapidly evolving product designs and frequent engineering revisions.
Work Environment
The role supports a facility that designs and manufactures low-SWaP certified avionics, including transponders, identification friend or foe systems, and ACAS/DAA modules for military and commercial aircraft. Work takes place within a regulated environment operating under an AS9100-based Quality Management System with AS9102-compliant First Article Inspection processes. The position focuses primarily on office-based tasks involving detailed documentation review, interaction with digital quality records, and regular communication with suppliers and internal engineering and production teams. The assignment is structured around addressing a defined backlog of approximately 100 to 150 full and partial FAIRs generated by rapid product development and engineering changes, and may evolve into a longer-term quality engineering role as production grows.
