About this role

Standard Job Description

Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 114,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products, and services. Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (MFC) is one of four Lockheed Martin business areas.

We are seeking to hire an Electro-Optical (EO) Engineer to support the development and characterization of quantum technologies associated with electro-optical and laser systems.

This is an opportunity to apply foundational physics and engineering skills to emerging quantum-EO applications under the guidance of senior engineers. Skill set should include physics-based modeling, laser system fundamentals, basic optical alignment, and/or data analysis/algorithm support. The EO Engineer will work closely with senior technical staff to understand the sensitivities associated with quantum-enhanced EO/laser systems and support system design trades, test planning, and data analysis. This is a technical contributor role with growing opportunities to communicate analysis results to the immediate team and project leads. Understanding of modern US defense systems, EO/IR systems, or quantum technologies is a plus.

Basic Qualifications

Candidate must demonstrate the ability to perform the following Electro-Optical Engineering assignments, with mentorship and guidance from senior staff:

* Demonstrate foundational knowledge of EO systems, optical/infrared materials and coatings, sensors, and laser systems.
* Demonstrate knowledge or experience in radiometric EO analysis and simulation.
* Demonstrate the ability to utilize MATLAB (or equivalent, e.g., Python) to support EO performance analysis simulations or data reduction.
* Support parametric studies and trade analyses for EO sensor and system development.
* Assist in building, aligning, and characterizing laboratory optical/laser setups for test and evaluation.
* Support design and execution of instrumentation setups for lab- and system-level testing.
* Must be a US Citizen, as an Interim Clearance is required to start.

Desired Skills

* Academic, research, or internship experience in quantum optics, quantum sensing, or quantum information science, and interest in applying quantum principles (e.g., photon statistics, entanglement, quantum coherence) to EO or laser systems.
* Familiarity with single-photon detectors, photon-counting techniques, or coherence/interferometric measurements.
* Exposure to industry/analysis tools such as MODTRAN6, MATLAB, Python, or Zemax.
* Basic experience with laser system characterization (pulse energy, divergence, beam profile) and test procedure development.
* Interest in system-level integration of quantum technologies with EO/laser platforms, including requirements and digital engineering concepts.
* Current TS/SCI
