SCOPE OF WORK:

The Refugee Health Promotion Assistant supports the implementation of refugee health promotion activities designed to improve health literacy, increase access to healthcare services, and promote overall well-being among refugees and other ORR-eligible populations. The position provides culturally and linguistically appropriate education, outreach, referral coordination, and administrative support to help clients navigate the U.S. healthcare system and address barriers to care.

This is a part-time, limited-term position expected to conclude on September 30, 2027, unless otherwise extended.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Work across program teams within the Wichita office to determine health care needs and gaps in services for community members.
- Assist with enrollment, eligibility verification, and program orientation activities.
- Assist clients in accessing primary care, specialty care, behavioral health, dental, vision, and preventive health services.
- Support scheduling of medical appointments and follow-up care.
- Provide interpretation coordination and language access support as needed.
- Help clients understand medical instructions, insurance coverage, and healthcare resources.
- Coordinate transportation resources for health-related appointments when appropriate.
- Assist with referrals and follow-up with partner organizations.
- Support the Health and Wellness coordinator with outreach events and workshops to provide culturally- and linguistically appropriate health and wellness information and discussion for refugee and immigrant populations.
- Assist with clients’ transportation related to health care and education needs
- Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, including weekly meetings with project leads and monthly group meetings.
- Maintain accurate and timely client records in accordance with program and organizational requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all organizational and funder requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education:

- Associate degree in Public Health, Social Work, Human Services, Health Education, Community Health, or a related field preferred.

Work Experience:

- At least one year of experience providing social services or health programming for vulnerable populations.
- Experience working with refugees and immigrants to navigate American social/human service systems preferred.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

- Ability to handle complex and sensitive cases and to work effectively with clients who have a wide range of psychosocial, protection, health, immigration, and criminal justice issues.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work successfully in cross-cultural environment.
- Solid organizational skills with ability to multi-task, set priorities, manage time and meet deadlines.
- Flexibility and ability to work well under pressure are essential.
- Well organized, self-directed, and highly motivated.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and client confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Spoken fluency in English, and another language spoken by IRC target population preferred.

Working Environment:

- A combination of standard office environment, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
- May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Compensation: (Pay Rate: $18.45/hr). Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
